Interesting ad.

According to the "about quote" on Youtube:

"All that beeping won me a Clio (Awards for Excellence in Advertising) in 1984."

So, I'm guessing the ad&dishwasher are roughly 1983-84 vintage.

The computer talk text (where the dishwasher is saying "HELLO. ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MY INCREDIBLE SELF" and so on reminds me of early 80s home computers, too.

I remember this ad.

Tremendously cool dishwasher. Was this the forerunner of the 2800?

This was filmed during the creation of the soundtrack for the above ad:

I think the reference to the machine not talking was to remind people it didn't talk.
In the early 80's we had cars that could "talk". Word on the street was that soon appliances would be talking too. The last thing anyone wanted to do was to have a "discussion" with their appliances in the kitchen. People found that talking cars were rather annoying.
So GE wanted you to know that this wasn't an annoying appliance.

For some reason I thought that advert screamed 1983 when I saw it.

I never knew of the 2500, just the 2800 and the 2200.

Bob

in the early 80's there were lesser featured(plain racks, non multi-orbit spray arm) full electronic models that had plastic consoles......unlike the heavy chrome on the 2500, 2600 & 2800. Bottom-line there was a myriad of offerings at the time.
