Well, I've had my Whirlpool Duet FL for a couple months now and I just received a letter from the Whirlpool Company offering me an extended warranty. It's currently covered under just a one year warranty.
Pricing: One year extended- $100.65 or 3 payments of $35.56 Two year extended- $181.16 or 4 payments of $47.33 Three year extended- $256.65 or 4 payments of $66.09 If I choose the payment plan, I will be charged a "processing fee" per payment. If anything does happen to the washer, I just don't see that happening within 4 years. I have until April 13th to make up my mind. What do you guys think? Should I take the plunge? Aaron |

I have the Kenmore HE4t which is similiar to the Duet and I did purchase the extended warranty. Normally I don't buy extended warranties but because FL washers are relatively new on the market in N. America I thought they might be more prone to problems. The washer will be 5 years old in July and just this past weekend it came up with an error code. The repair guy just left. He had to order a part - the plastic box containing the computer card has 3 clips that hold it to the frame - one clip was broken, and another clip was cracked so the box was barely attached to the frame. The box was moving all about and it should be in a fixed position. He thinks this is what was causing the error code. In another thread I mentioned this problem and was told it would have been a $500-600 repair. The repair guy was here for 1.5 hours today and will be back for about 1-2 hours next Mon. with the new part. Labour alone would have been a few hundred dollars so for me, the extended warranty was worth it.

We got an extended warranty on our pair when we bought them at Lowe's. You couldn't beat the price compared to what the manufacturer wanted. I'd recommend getting the coverage for the reasons Gary mentioned above. Shop around and if you bought it at Lowe's or HD, they will likely have the best deal.

I don't know about your neck of the woods...but I have a GE warranty on my Calypso set.....150.00 for 4 years past the original warranty....if I don't use it, I get a full refund!...this was from Lowes
From a Mom and Pop appliance store I got my Frigidaire FL....30.00 per year for the set past the original warranty....I bought 9 years total, also from GE....Ihave to check if I get a refund on this too....not that it matters, I had it serviced 2 times already..... |

The washer was only $186 and the dryer ws $89 for three additional years.
I considered the complexity of the new machines, along with the electronics and felt it was best to be covered. I will caution, however, I did not have a great experience with WP extended coverage on my Maytag Dishwasher. Though in all honesty the company acted in good faith and did repair the machine. But--the repair company A&E that they sent out were just parts hangers and didn't diagnose the problem only replaced parts. The two circut boards they replaced the cost exceeded the value of the machine and they didn't cover anything else. Also the EW does not cover "cosmetic" items like when the bottom dishwaher racks rust through on a 14 month old dishwasher. |

I have a Duet that turned 5 yrs old this month. Looking back I haven't had any major problems. At the 14 month mark, I started getting F/dl......Repair guy comes, says it's the door latch assembly, ordered it.....returned a few days later, installed it.....Then I got f11 and he said it wasn't the door latch...Took the new one off and put the old one back on....He did charge 99 dollars.....Later he returned with a CCU (which Whirlpool covered) since it was a 2 year warranty on the CCU....But now that I think about it, I never did get that 99 dollars back for the wrong diagnosis....The door latch assembly is still in the box it came in in my attic...I purchased the Whirlpool extended warranty for three years after this problem....Nothing has been wrong at all since. Once the three year warranty was up, whirlpool kept calling/sending letters warning me that it was expiring, but I didn't purchase another extended warranty .....maybe I should have....but it seems the common problems are either the control boards or the bearings....
