Here are my "dream machines" of 1987 in Almond.
Dryer is electric.
Both in use since 1987.
Washer - NO repairs except agitator dogs replaced a couple of years ago by me.
Dryer - one repair to replace a thermostat.
Sears Best!
I will keep them FOREVER!

Beautiful set! I saw the washer in black a few months ago behind one of the local stores. I briefly thought about bringing it home, then realized that I already have too much crap.

Thanks for posting -

Ben

I had the 1999 set in almond monocromatic..electric dryer

and then in 1995 got the 3 speed model with the advanced dual action plus agitator, and the padded insulation quiet pak(super quiet), and a gas dryer

I liked how you could make it agitate and fill at the same time, to mix detergent well, and add clothes as it went along...and best of all was the light...

the dryer I liked because you could push the door buttons with the door open and it would tumble the clothes from the back to the front for easy unloading

Great set.....enjoy for years

Does that set have lighted controls or is that overhead lighting? They sure do look nice! Electronic controls no less!

Time Magazine called that period in time. "Darth Vaderism", and they had a pic of the Kenmore electronic pair in black. Sears always made sure they were on view from the escalator, they were stunning. Lots of folks stopped to look them over. Philcobendixduo, yours are in beautiful condition. alr2903

I have the previous electronic models in white. I wish I had the last version in black! I would gladly trade my 1981 LK Electronic set (needs a full restoration) for the last BD electronic models. Well, that or a Frigidaire WCI-58.

I'd also take both,
Dave

PS: I love the fluorescent panel lights. My LK electronic set has smaller incandescent panel lights. Nice, but far from the same thing.

Oops - just remembered another repair

The dryer did have the drum support rollers replaced about 3 years ago.
The lighting in the picture is from the built-in fluorescents and that's all.
AU on the dryer display does indeed indicate automatic control instead of timed.
My profile picture is a close-up of the dryer control panel showing the RARE (for me) "CLEAN SCREEN" indicator light (new towels!)

Did y'all noticed the difference in basket holes designs over the years?
