We had Smith's Appliance come and take Ed's Speed Queen washer in. He has his own business and wanted them to service it. When it was returned, Charles, the owner of Smith's asked me if I'd be interested in an Affinity washer in red. I said "Are you serious? of course,I'm interested, why?" He told me he had one and nobody seamed that interested in red and he'd had it on his floor, never used, and needed the floor space for a subzero frig he got from a local kitchen dealership that had been D.O.A.It needed a new wire harness. The original one shorted out and was frayed.I told him,if the price was right,I'd pay him in cash, today. He arrived here with Ed's SQ and the Affinity on the truck and I got it for two KitchenAid,one Speed Queen and one BD Kenmore washers!! He isn't that interested in front loaders and swears by the BD and DD WhirlKenAnaKirkAidTags LOL.(Bet ya can't say that ten times!) :)

I hooked it up this afternoon and it works great!I like the interior light feature and the built in booster for a real hot wash.Tomorrow,I'll check the water level adjustment and try to see if it's the adjustable type.If so,I'll be able to increase the level of water assuring there will be plenty to thoroughly wash and rinse the loads I do daily.I am planning on getting the drawers and go get it's matching gas dryer.I LOVE THE RED!!!

Got the drawers---

I went to the Sears in Hilo and they had the drawers on sale for $159 and in stock. I got the red one in the box and the white one was reduced because of a few hidden scratches on either side. I got $40 off on the white one.The instalation takes a while and I put down some old bath towels to absorb the residue water while screwing on the drawers.Nice looking and usefull,I highly recomend them to everyone who gets the front loading stackable units and isn't building them in under a counter. They keep your detergents and other laundry aids coveniently stored and hidden and raise the washer and dryer to a real convenient level that makes loading, unloading and visual level awesome! Wow, just hda another earthquake as I'm writing.Thos one feals like a 4.Gotta go!

pedestals on stackable models

I assume you placed one pedestal under the washer and another under the dryer? I once asked Frigidaire if a STACKED pair could accommodate a pedestal and they said NO, too heavy and too top-heavy for safety. Plus the dryer would be too high for all but very tall people.

I put one on each of the two washers I have. One is the one with a square door and an electronic dial, push buttons and is white. The other is an Affinity that has the round door and interior light, booster and 1200 rpm spin.ther are 8 Speed Queen gas commercial, a GE Harmony, a Kenmore and a Kitchenaid dryers here.It would be nice to have stacked the matching dryers onto each of the washers but,the laundromat run here is 20 steps away from the Frigidaire washers in the store's (we pump propane and sell gas appliances here)rest room area and just a few steps from my personal apartment. I take laundry in and use the Frigidaires because they are real efficient and there's a nice 5 seater bench across the wall directly in front of these beauties.I do anywhere from 7 to 20 loads every day but Sunday and have made enough profit to be able to get 4 Speed Queen front loaders(commercial) and had all the commercial top loaders overhauled. Smith's Appliance had sold my boss, Pete,4 washers and 8 gas dryers the got from a laundromat that closed 5 years ago and promised Pete they'd repair any problems free. Pete saw me taking one apart to replace the pump and belt and was mad because of the agreement he had made with Smith's. I had him call them because, if they were willing to come pick it up,repair it and return it, I was all for that. So,after I spoke to their owner,Charlie,he varified the agreement and came and got them. So far,two of the four top loaders are back in service and two are on their way back, ready to use, tomorrow (Friday).Once the plumbing is finished ( the city workers are finaly putting storm drain pipes in as well as sewerage pipes for the homes, getting rid of the septic tanks now here)we will reopen our laundromat. The entire project the city is doing regfarding the new sewerage is not going to be anywhere near finished until 2012. That's why it was great to get the Frigidaires. I do all the work which keeps them from getting abused. I took fingernail pollish and covered the lock out picture and directions so nobody would learn how to unlock the controls and use the machines without my assistance. Once all the wash is done,I hold the two buttons in,locking the controls until I use them again.I did the same with the white one with white touch-up paint.I'm the only one here who knows how to unlock it so it will work.My reasoning for this is that most users of the laundromat overload the washers and have caused many problems with the top loaders. Because they're at least ten years old, I'm not as concerned about them going belly up. i also try to encourage the customers to do drop off instead of self service. i have letters from some of my current customeers who I take wash in for stating how pleased they are in the cleanliness and whiter whites they are getting. One guy said that his own mother never got his clothes as clean and great smelling.word of mouth has increased the business 455 and, once we re-open the laundromat and the new Speed queen front loaders are installed and running, the average daily profit should be around $975/day!$4/wash and $2/30 minute dry. I also have 10 twenty foot long clothes lines for those who choose to hang clothes out. i use them, myself and the clothes are dry in 30 to 40 minutes.Faster when the tradewinds are blowing.

Yup! the good thing about that is that there is no money due to anyone. I took the incoming profit on the older top loading SQ's from July to January and used that to buy the new front loading SQs that are yet to be taken out of their boxes and installed. Meanwhile,I am using the Frigidaires to take in wash and that enables me to have a bit more control over any type of abuse that has almost ruined the older top loaders.I charge more but the customers are not only willing to pay that extra amount but also leave me generous tips along with it.As long as they drop the wash off to me before 9AM, I can have it ready by 6PM.Any time after that,it will be ready the next day by 1PM.

I found 4 $100 bills in the jean pocket of Mingway's (a local private school teacher who faithfully drops off 9 to 12 loads every Monday for me to wash, dry, and fold. When she came to get her wash, I gave it to her in an envelope. She opened it and burst into tears because it was money she thought got stolen and needed it for her mother who is terminaly ill.I had always checked pockets and had found other left in items like lip gloss, empty gum and candy wrappers and some change but always put it aside and included it in a marked envelope with the laundry once it was finished. When word got around about that and the clean, great smelling laundry, the business has been increasing and making great profit. Not only are the customers and I happy but,my boss Pete ,is too and is glad I decided to stay here.

White Affinity model

My friend from Smith's, Charley, came over yesterday and had already brought me an older Maytag Fabric-matic single speed washer that is now completely restored and will be going to Mark and Wendy's farmhouse. They are off grid and have solar power.Their current 1979 speed queen solid tub commercial washer has finaly died a long life and they needed something as symple as that old clucker. It's trans has failed and the motor is burned out.Mark does all of our solar and wind turbine instalation for our customers who buy solar panels and wind turbines from us.Wendy is a nurse at the local jail.they come over and spend the night here twice a week and Mark brings the Rum while I supply the Coke.We shoot pool upstairs while Wendy cooks something up for supper.I usualy win but Mark's been practicing a bit more and has improved enough to win a few more times than before.Anyway,I showed wendy how to not overload the unit and recomended they replace the belts and hoses every five years. I have plenty of the Maytag belt sets in stock that I bought at a closeout of a local dealership.

As Charlie drove in today,he had a truck full of used appliances he got in Kona at the Home Depot and Lowes stores there. When I went to get the red Frigidaire Affinity, there was a white version of the same model there that had just arived and needed to be checked.that model was on his truck and he asked me if I wanted it too. I said "Sure, how much?"he said he'd trade it for a gas refrigerator if we had one. I had just gotten a Servel this past Sunday as a trade in for a ConServ I had that was repo'd from a delinquent buyer. So,now I own a red and a white Affinity front loading washer and a Kenmore made by Frigidaire that has the square door. All three are together and look real neat.I electronicaly lock the control panel out to keep anyone else from using them without asking first because the Speed Queen top loaders were almost totaled from being overloaded and having way too much detegent used in them.
