Just wanted to say how happy I was to find this site, after thinking for years that my obsessive interest in washing machines, telephones, etc., made me isolated and strange. The various pictures have brought back many old memories. Wednesday's POD was the Kenmore that my childhood next door neighbors had years ago. They also had the matching dryer. That new Kemore set replaced their 1950-something Norge Timeline set. The washer that the neighbors on the other side of us had what was an unusual color -- a very light brown and I remember thinking it was strange that the timer knob was small and black and shaped like a triangle. I have no idea what the brand was.

We had a Norge washer that my parents bought new in 1965. I can still picture it in my mind but I haven't seen it on this site. We didn't have a dryer until 1966 or 1967 and then we got a new Hotpoint. In 1969, Dad came home from work and surprised Mom with a new Kenmore 70 set. Being from a large family, Mom did a minimum of six loads a day, and that washer passed away in 1977 and was replaced with a MOL Kenmore with a what was then new Dual Action agitator. It was large capacity, several cycles but no fabric softener dispenser. That machine and the 1969 Kenmore dryer were replaced in 1987 with a MOL standard capacity Maytag set that were replaced in 1997 with a MOL large capacity Maytag set -- still in use. The first dishwasher was a coppertone '68 Hotpoint with Rinse & Hold as the only option.

My grandmother had an early '60s front loader Westy that fascinated me beyond words and the other grandmother had a Fridgidaire. Based on what I've seen on this site, it must have been a 1965. I remember it having a blue console with smaller white knobs on the left and a silver "PUSH" button (seen on this site) to the right of the timer.

An aunt had what I now think was a 1956 Whirlpool dryer.

Sorry to ramble. It's amazing how all of this kind of just came back to me. Looking forward to being here and I promise to keep it shorter next time!
