My '74 helical drive A606 agitator may be cracked and require replacing.

in Thread Number: 22347, near the end, a Maytag cork screw agitator is mentioned, used on the Norge Maytags?

Is there one that would work in my A606? The helical drive has a 6 tooth spline.

If not I'm in the market for a used non-leaking replacement...

Nope. Just before the NorgeTags came out, they had an auger agitator for the orbital drive. It supposedly could sense the amount of clothes in the tub, and if it was loaded full, the auger would turn harder to push the load down.

The name of it is on the tip of my tongue, but won't come out! Must be having a senior moment...

Guys here have put the Power Fin into an orbital drive machine, so reason says you should be able to put an Power Fin 12 or the auger agitator into a pitman transmission machine like yours.

Pete: Load Sensor! :D

The Load Sensor or Power Flex 12 will fit just fine in your '06 machine. Just make sure it isn't the Load Sensor from the Norge based machines as you have pictured above. I don't have the PN on hand right now for the Orbital version.....

Click the link below and scroll down. Somewhere in the thread I posted a YT video showing the differences between the original Power Fin and the Load Sensor.

Check it out!

Ben

I found and bought an auger

I bought a auger agitator for this '74 A606 washer.

The agitator was from a LAT9520AAQ, PN22001821

What may be interesting is that the old powerfin is 15.25" high and this auger is about an inch taller.... It may fling fabic softener all over the lid.

But it does have a 6 tooth spline, so I'm hopeful it will work well with the helical drive...once I get it going again.

I was just really impressed with how soft and clean my clothes are when washed with our DD Kenmore portable (with auger) machine. We're using that while the A606 is apart.
