The agitator spline was badly rusted, suggesting a cracked agitator, but it looks to be free of cracks, dirty but free of cracks... |

In another thread showing damper pad replacement it is emphasized that one must use polylube. ok. But that's easy enough considering it comes in the kit. What doesn't come in the kit is the glue. What does one use, monster glue? |

I bought a auger agitator for this '74 A606 washer. The agitator was from a LAT9520AAQ, PN22001821 more on "auger, what auger?" thread. see Thread# 28226 Thanks for you help. Will it really be 1" too tall???? This post was last edited 05/04/2010 at 22:13 |

Even if you could get that shaft out you would likely need to press new bushings into the transmission cover also. Its much easier to replace the complete transmission or at least the complete cover of the transmission. There are thousands of MT helical drive washers being scrapped every week in this country most have excellent drive lines in them people just get tired of the poor performance of these washers and are buying newer machines.

No need to press new bushings in the trans if they're ok. Most of the time they're fine. I have swapped several center shafts from different transmissions with no problems at all. Just squeaky clean the bushings and liberally oil them with Maytag transmission oil, as well as the shaft, when you install it. You'll need a new pin that goes through the bottom of the shaft and pinion gear.

I ... well thanks. I'll just keep looking, perhaps I'll find another machine and buy it for the shaft. I'd hoped someone here had a shaft to sell. |

There's a new one on ebay for 32.00. That's really cheap considering Whirlpool recently jacked up the price to $106.00.
I swear I hate Whirlpool more and more with each passing day. CLICK HERE TO GO TO qsd-dan's LINK on eBay |
