SHIT!!!! I am in DEEP trouble unless I can fix this!!!!! Ok, I had the Fisher Paykel spinning open and a clothes pin hanging on the line above it fell off and the wind fromm the washer spinning blew it just right so that it is now in the outer drum!!!!! How do I get the top off for this repair?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Whoa, that is too weird and definitely a rare occurence for sure! I've seen Glenn's machine, and the tub does sit lower on the hub during spin, which probably caused the clothespin to fly into the outer tub.

I haven't "lost" anything in that huge gap of my GE yet, but that will eventually happen...especially if I try to wash a rag or socks in the filter pan!

Have you emailed Glenn about how to open the top and remove the inner tub?

First of all, DONT PANIC!!!, second of all, it is an accident! So dont worry too much. The same thing happened to me only it was a straw piece from a broom. luckily the pump shoved it down the drain hose. But tell your mom it was an accident and that you will take your time to look it up on how to rip it apart and fix it!

Pull the machine out if necessary for clearance to swing the top back and support it against the wall. Or have a helper available to hold it up.

Best to remove the water hoses from the valve . . but if you don't, BE CAREFUL to NOT swing the top back too far or the water valve connections may crack or the hoses break off. The water valve is inside the console, and raising the top with the hoses attached rotates the hoses against the back of the machine.

ALSO BE CAREFUL of the off-balance lever that protrudes at the right rear from the console. Pull the tub forward a bit so the lever clears it when raising or lowering the top, so it doesn't break off.

Remove the lid.

Remove the two lid bumpers.

Remove the two Philips screws.

Raise the top. (The helper holds it up at this point.)

Unclip the bias spring at the front left support strut.

Unsnap and remove the tub ring.

Remove the softener dispenser and unscrew the agitator wing nut that's down inside.

Remove the agitator.

The basket should now simply lift up and out. If it doesn't, remove the screws at the bottom.

Reverse to reassemble.

WHEW!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!! It's as good as new!!!!! (Mom'll never have to know!) My mom would FREAK if she knew ANYTHING happened to her washer!!! I also foundd that the "bias spring" was already undone, it looks as though it had been bent and fell off. What is that spring for?
