Hi all,

This question may be best addressed to the guys who deal with this on a daily basis, or to anyone who has had trouble fitting a large capacity Whirlpool 29" dryer into a depth-challenged space.

I have a co-worker who came to me asking for advice concerning the availability of custom venting materials for his early 80s 29-inch large capacity dryer. The space they have doesn't allow the dryer to exhaust then connect to the home's exhaust outlet without pushing the dryer too far back and crushing the hose.

From what I understand, this is the reason that Sears still sells many of their 5.9 cu. ft. flat-back dryers, which allow for more room behind the unit. In this case, another dryer is not an option, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of venting options that flatten but extend the exhaust plumbing without constricting it, etc. I would swear I saw some metal ductwork products that Sears once sold that allowed the dryer to be installed closer to the wall.

If anything out there is available, please let me know your suggestions. Apparently this dryer belonged to their grandmother, and she gave it just prior to her dealt to her granddaughter (my co-worker's daughter) so there's sentimental reasons behind using this exact machine.

Thanks for any and all ideas!

Gordon

Recessed vent

This may work - but will probably be somewhat involved to retro fit. This may be worth doing; I would like to put one in our house!

THAT IS AN AWESOME IDEA, Thank you!!!!

A couple of the houses on my street were built with these back in 2004/2005 or so and I wished mine had been.

I will pass this on!
