Hi everyone,

Well browsing through ebay on Friday night I noticed the dryer I grew up with listed just a few miles away from me. Have been looking for a compact dryer for my place at uni, so seemed like it was meant to be.

Bought for my parents as a wedding present in 1988, we had this dryer till I was 10.

So here it is, the Carlton 3100.

Needed very little cleaning up

Stank like an ashtray at first, but after vacuuming it out and running it for a while its just great now. Had to replace the plug but otherwise have done nothing to it.

Only one slight problem

The fascia and dial are a bit warped, can only imagine it was situated next to a heater. The fascia at this side is a bit loose, it seems to have warped so that the clips holding it to the cabinet have been bent out of shape, ah well it still stays on :)

Drum

Absolutely immaculate, most of the machines I've seen with painted drums are scratched and worn. I don't think it's seen much use.

It certainly brings back fond memories

It's so quiet and I'd forgotten how fast they tumble.

I certainly shall not be cramming full loads from an Indesit into it as Mum did back in the day, but ours coped with it without a problem for 11 years, was only replaced as it was located in the garage and Dad reversed the car into it (ooooops).

Video to follow shortly :)

Matt

Looks neat Matt...

Ive seen a couple of these on eBay but theyve always been miles from you so never bothered saying anything. Glad you've got your hands on one finally. I know how much you liked the one that your Dad ran over!

It looks very neat, especially the drum.

Liam.

Tumble Dryer

Hi Matt

I have a dryer very similar to yours in the photo but made by Zanussi. I have not got a clue how old the machine is, I think it could be from the 1980,s.

It still works, but looking to buy a bigger one.

Paul

Fantastic Matt, nice find and so pleased u got it :)

Paul, I think the Zanussi branded models were early 90's, after the White Knight brand came in. Made in Halifax, of course - about 30mins away from me. Good ol' yorkshire.

Thanks

Hehe Liam, we certainly learned the hard way that when Vauxhall Cavalier meets with compact dryer, the dryer tends to come off worse :(

Paul, I have seen some 90's Zanussi compacts that are rebaged white knight machines, I think they were mainly sold alongside the nexus range, so mid 90s. I do hope the dryer will be sold on or donated it to a worthy cause if you replace it, would be a shame to see a fully working dryer end up on the tip :)

Thanks Chris, it's a lovely dryer, I certainly prefer it to Mum's Hotpoint, even if it is so much smaller.

Matt

Zanussi Dryer

Hi Matt.

Will have to take some photos of my Zanussi Dryer. It still works, but would like a full size one.

It does says made in Britain on the front, very quiet in operation.

I don,t think I would take it to the tip, just store the old baby, lol.

Those Vauxhall Cavaliers were hard as nails. The poor dryer didn't stand a chance :(

Looks like White Knight made dryers for Zanussi if the Zanussi compact that Paul has says 'Made in UK' on it, because i don't believe Zanussi made anything in the UK themselves?

Kinda shows how decent White Knight's quality was/is, for them to be employed by the likes of Zanussi.

Liam.

Tumble Dryer

Hi Liam,

Will try and take some photos of my dryer. Got a new camera so trying to work my way through the instructions, lol.

Its a great little dryer, but does not have reverse action, which I find to be a pain in the bum sometimes, more so when I dry my bedding.

Thats why I am looking to buy a full size dryer, but money is a bit tight at moment as recently come back from my holidays.

Regards

Paul

Hey Matt

Great choice there, those little, well not so little 7lb dryers are great for doing the job, I had a the Phillips version D153 in early 90`s on a shelf over a Phillips Slinline toploader, in a little hall cupboard...did the job great

That design of Phillips just keeps going, first crosslee after the takeover and now through other manufacturers scourcing them!!!
