It was good news, bad news kinda weekend in Ogden...
Despite having visitors, I still managed to leave myself some 'appliance time' this past weekend.... However, not everything went according to plan. I was pretty determined to get that 58 Frigidaire dishwasher of mine back together again. I needed to mount the pump housing in the tub sump – I figured I would be smart and coated the gasket and the pump plate with liquid gasket. I supported the motor unit with a piece of wood and checked the alignment of the pump with the tub sump opening. It looked good.... |

I figured I had nothing to lose, so I tried to glue the broken section back to the pump housing with some JB Weld. I let it set overnight, then gently tried to reinstall the pump.
But as you can see, it didn't hold water... I tried putting a bucket of water into the machine. It just poured out all over the place. |

Now, I hate to give up too easily, but sheesh! Finding a replacement pump housing for a machine like this is going to be a tall order... Hubby’s suggestion about gutting my pink 62 Frigi was not welcome. BUT, if anyone out there ever hears of one being available or if you come across an otherwise dead Frigidaire Spray-Tube machine that could be ‘parted out’ please, pretty please with sugar on top, do let me know!!
And I don't know how sound this idea might be but on the drive back to Montreal tonight, I had an idea. That fiberglass patching stuff that they sell for boats might be an option... If I cut small strips of it and re-inforced the inside and outside... I know you "can't win 'em all" but I really did want to get this baby running again... |

Bob, I am way ahead of you - there are LOTS of good parts still left here that someone else might be able to use! The timer and wiring harness are perfect; the upper and lower racks and the silverware basket are in great shape, and the motor and impeller are still very usable! Besides, isn't trashing any kind of machine without consulting the board first a serious offence around here?? LOL

Paul, I bought the used Frigidaire Dishwasher pump and motor from Larry at Modern Parts House, in hopes of getting my machine up and running. It is a back burner project for me right now, but I may have a pump housing that may work for you when I am all finished - but no promises. This used assembly that I bought is somewhat different from the one on the machine presently. I believe you should have turned the machine upside down before you started reattaching the pump housing. That is how I attached mine. Mike |

don't give up! i felt that way when i dropped that rollermatic
off the truck last summer and now it runs perfectly! i still think that pump housing might be able to be glued back together! if not another will surface! i would not part out machine, just back away for awhile till you get over being upset about it. i didn't touch my custom imperial for about 6 months! just left the peices in a box! i am going to cleveland/buffalo today and tomorrow and hope to visit larry in cleveland tomorrow. i will check and see if he has another pump housing left. i know he had one last year but as mike said he bought it. he may have another. don't give up, it will run!!!!!!!!!!! again!!!!!!!!!!!! |

just got back from cleveland and i stoped in to see larry at modern parts house. unfortunately he has no more frigidaire spin tube pump parts. as mike said, he got the last one when he visited recently.
matt up in michigan may have something. don't think he's on this site anymore but i have his phone no. he runs "west end appliance" in grand rapids. i have to call him anyone to ask about something else, i will ask him about it. good luck, don't give up! oh yea, i never had god luck with jb weld when it came to glueing metal parts together. there has got to be something else that may hold it. i used to use a product called "liquid steel", i think auto parts stores may have it. or maybe something to mend muffler peices? |

Actually, lots! Having Hubby's Mother visiting has cut down the amount of time I have to post, but I am absolutely floored by the offers of help for this machine! Thanks to Mike, Pete, and Nathan for your offers!! Looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel and for once, it's NOT a train... LOL
I will keep you all up to date about how I solve this dilemma! |
