I am about to purchase a 1998 vintage Kenmore portable washer and I was wondering how to get it opened up to secure the tub when I am moving it. I will be picking it up on Saturday morning, and I don't remember seeing any information here about a portable this new. Thanks! Tony

Photo please

Please post a photo of the machine. If it's the world washer, I don't know how to open it. If it's the DD, take a credit card or something similarly flat and stiff, and push it in the gap between the top and main body at both the left and right corners. You'll have to push pretty hard. There are spring latches that you're undoing. In experience with mine, the top will pop up a little bit when you hit it right. To perform most other service to the machine, you'll then remove the left side panel to allow access to the pump, motor, water valve, coupler, and capacitor. Really easy machine to work on.

That's the world washer. Ignore what I said. Someone else will have to help you with that one.

I know so little about them, I can't even tell the difference. Oh well, maybe someone else knows how to open this thing. I appreciate the attempt, though. Tony

Different subject

Repost it with a subject line about opening Kenmore World Washer. Those are belt-drive and came out in the mid 90s. The US market ones are generally from Brazil or Mexico.

The one I'm looking at was made in Mexico, and I changed the subject line, too. Hopefully someone will know something about it

I had the Whirlpool version, and I did open the top but it was so long ago that I can't remember how I did it. I think I had to remove some screw in the back, but not 100% positive. It's a great little washer had mine for about 3 or 4 years, then I got the Frigidaire front loaders and sold to a co-worker.
