The dial or knob on my GE Profile washer needs to be advanced at least twice midway through the wash or rinse cycle. I don't know if this is because of a faulty timer or defective knob. I bought a replacement knob for $10 but it came with no installation instructions and the original knob doesn't just pop off. Does anyone know how to remove the original knob and install the replacement? The model number is WPSQ416OT2WW and the part number is WH1X2754.
Your machine probably has a defective timer. But, if you do want to try replacing the knob, pull the timer knob out to the "ON" position, and look for a 2-prong plastic pin behind the timer. Use a pair of small needle-nose pliers (this works best) or a screwdriver to pop it out. The knob should then pull right off. Install the new knob in the correct position, and then snap the pin back on.
