Figured with the incredibly high asking price it would be safe to post this for discussion.
Before folks go and send messages to the seller please remember that the seller made the choice to post these on eB*y with little to no real information on the machines - specifically model number, serial number info, etc. I really doubt the high starting price and lack of detailed information is going to draw much attention to a large crowd of potential buyers. I mean - it is much better than the pink Florida Maytags ;-) With that being said ... Very very cool set. I'm having a hard time putting a model number to the washer with the three wash temps/two speeds/four water levels; closest I can come to is an A407 or an A608 but I know neither is correct. The dryer is very much a DG606. The serial number of the dryer is also shown and legible. Decoded as October of '75, which coincides with my previous research on the model tag being placed under the lid of the washer after September of '75. The set looks to be in fantastic shape with the original Newton shine under the lid of the washer, and the safety sticker on the dryer door. The warning tag is still wired to the dryer exhaust. Would be cool to see this set in person. I can't imagine many are around in this condition! Ben CLICK HERE TO GO TO swestoyz's LINK on eBay |

That's a fantastic deal. Nothing new even comes close to the quality level of a set like that especially for that price-point. |

The starting price is very fair and this is about the last of the shaded coppertone color washer & dryers. I would buy these my self for the museum project as I haven't saved any MTs from the 1970s if it weren't for the shipping hassles. The 1970s machines still seem very common but new pairs are not I would think in this club these should go for up to a couple grand.

I hope somebody in this club gets these and preserves them in their unused state. Just to prove, once again, to the world that Americans made some great sh*t once upon a time. I think these are a deal. Pity I can't afford them, but I imagine these will create a bidding war. And the intelligent, considerate seller deserves every penny for not doing what most of the lunkheads in my part of the world do with treasures like this; take them to the dump.

I have to agree strongly with that statement, for a region that prides itself on being the oldest and preserving heritage people around here sure toss stuff out on a whim without ever thinking about what they are doing.
It maybe what I've always said, NewEnglanders only love butter churners ,milk glass and candles.DOn't get me started! Anything after that is trash! |

Hey Guys - I agree whole heartily the machines are stunning. I guess I feel the price may be a bit high knowing that not very far down the road parts will start to get difficult to procure for these machines - especially the HOH dryer, not to mention they are 35+ years old.
To echo Ken - thankfully they didn't meet the crusher and instead were offered up for sale. Jon - If they were a lighted panel 806 set - all bets would be off! Ben |

HAHA...my best friend in high school had this exact set and color in the house he grew up in. These are just beautiful. The next model up, the A806, would have the lighted panels. These really do belong in a museum or something. Luckily I don't have any money so I don't even worry about what will happen to them. It's beyond my control. An 806 or 906 pair like this would have been the absolute coolest thing though huh?
I think I hear Ben breaking his piggy bank just to be sure he doesn't want these... :-) Jon |

the price may seem steep, but if you found a used set and had to replace parts and a new paint job, and who knows what else not to mention wear and tear....somewhat considered brand new....maybe not such a bad price after all....although I would rather see them closer to the $400.00 to $500.00 price range...
all things considered I got a A107 like this in the box last year at an estate sale for $30.00, single speed, standard capacity, in white.....give it some thought! |

Pardon my ignorance, but is the dryer gas or electric? It is a stunning pair though! |

Agree that Maytag "Cordoba Copper" is a very attractive shade, along with GE Coppertone. Much more so than the washed-out brown colors of Frigidaire and D&M. Whoever gets this will be getting something extra nice. |

Here is an offer for anyone who is seriously thinking about bidding on these... I sent a message to the seller asking #1 The model & serial numbers of the washer & dryer and #2 What part of LA are they in. He said he will get the models & serials and post them in the eBay listing soon, but more importantly, it sounds like they are within about TEN minutes from my house. So now the offer, IF you bid on and win them, I will be happy to pick up and store them (2-3 weeks) to give you more time to arrange for shipping. So there you go! If you have any questions, please e-mail me. Thanks! Kevin |

I hope a member gets them. There is so much knowledge here.
Retropia: See the little door on the bottom front of the cabinet? That means the dryer is gas. I hope who ever gets these at least takes the front off of the washer and does a check. Isn't there a shipping block inside? The tube ring should be saved also. I would start out with a slow spin, to lube up the bearing. Goatfarmer or RedCarpetDrew should be consulted. Someone with a shop that's been around awhile(the shop not the person, lol) . I'd watch during a full cycle with the front cover off. Watch everything. Someone may get them, that doesn't know what they're doing. They could consult someone on here that could advise. If they get a set of commonly replaced parts, like some bearings and some belts for the dryer, they might be able to extend the life of these machines, possibly beyond their own life. As far as the museum goes, I don't know. Now if they were a set of 806s' or 906s', I'd agree. Does anyone know if there's a museum like that? Maybe just private museums', huh? Like the members on here. lol. |

Tub block is the plastic insert that fits in the tub opening of the washer and holds it stable when the unit is moved. |
