That pretty much is an outstanding washer (the first mentioned Kenmore). It's a large capacity 1980 model. There were two versions of this one and you can't tell the two apart without opening the lid. The first (110.82072100) was a run-of-the-mill 1980 model, but the later (110.82074100) closed out the 1980 run.
The first model had the older large capacity tub/basket design. No dispensers, but the machine has all anyone would really need. Five temps, five levels, an off-balance relay, a DA agitator, and all the cycles you could really use. The bettter machines had auto temp control on the next machine up, then the same with dispensers, finally the line wrapped up with the fancy machine with the cycle mod. switch that we were talking about a few weeks ago. This model was about $80 cheaper than those fancier and I'm not sure they really added anything worth $80 in 1980 money. That's decent money now, but quite a lot 30 years ago. Oddly, the machine below this had both dispensers, but a Penta-Swirl. It is not a common Kenmore practice to add a feature to a model, then go up the line and take it away again. The second model was an interesting machine - I think it was introduced to try out the new tub/basket and baseplate arrangement that was introduced line-wide in 1981. It was the only 1980 model to have this. The two machines look the same on the outside, but almost nothing structurally is the same - different, tub, baseplate, basket, suspension rods, tub ring, etc. The running gear is the same, though some variations of this washer used the high-volume pump (the pump that made so many discharge hoses fly out of their standpipes or sinks). Cool washer, and it looks like it's in nice shape. |

My grandparents had that first listed machine for several years. We had the standard 80 series with 3 water/3 temps. I loved how this machine had 5 water levels! It had the DA agitator and a fabric softener dispenser mounted on top of it. Not sure why they replaced it because I was too young but I always liked that machine and wished we had the same one.
