Hello, fellow old-laundry-equipment affectionados!

I have a Miele T380 dryer from the late 1980's. The timer is getting stuck so that it never shuts off. I tried calling Miele but they said these timers are no longer available. Does anyone know where I might find one?

Has anyone disassembled and repaired such a timer? Any idea what might be causing it to get stuck? I tried spraying silicone lube into it but it doesn't help. What is supposed to happen is that after the sensor detects the laundry is dry, the timer should advance quickly to the cool down position. But it only makes it about half way and stops. If I move it just a bit further by hand, it goes all the way to the cool down spot.

Any help much appreciated!

Best,
Robert

Get The Part Number

Then "Google" to see if it can be found somewhere in Europe.

Unlike the United States there are many appliance part shops and services that stock Miele parts, and there are still quite a few units from the 1980's still chugging along in the UK and EU.

If you can manage to nab a NIB Miele part, and feel not up to doing the repair yourself, your Miele service guy should do the work, he will charge for labour.

Miele North America (United States, Canada, etc), offices have slowly phased out support or at least parts for much of anything before the 1900 series. Was told when I enquired about parts for my W1070, that the only parts Miele USA is stocking for "older" units is what they have in inventory, once that is gone that is that as they aren't importing anything else.

Finally your other option is to find another dryer of the same model and either use it as a parts donor, or if it is in better condition than yours, swap them out.

How is your German?

The members of the German club often lead people to this website. I don't know anything about them, never tried it. But apparently they know a few things.

bad timer on Miele T380

Thanks so much for the replies. Yes, I can understand German. I'll look at that link, and ask at www.miele.de... as well. The part number of the timer is 2223410. Unfortunately, searching on Google has turned up nothing at all. Sigh... :-( Robert

what about rebuilding it

A local fellow rebuilds timers, has since the 1960's. I'm pretty sure he said he's done Miele's before so they can be done.

Try Also Various EU/EK eBay Sites

Though you may have to register.

What you want to find is again is either NOS parts or perhaps someone parting out a dryer.

Finally check with local appliance shops/removal and disposal services (ie "crushers"). Many shops offer free removal of old applinaces when new machines are delivered and installed. The old machines are held, gathered and then set to a "crusher" service. How long appliances stay on premises varies. In our area, things are collected almost daily or at least weekly as shops don't have or want to give up valuable space for storage.

Oh by the way, Miele often uses the same part on a series of similar appliances. You may wish to find the other model dryers Miele used this timer for and expand your search that way.

Found timer rebuilder in Ontario Canada

I found someone near me who rebuilds electronic and mechanical timers, but they're not familiar with the one in the Miele T380 dryer. I sent him the schematic and photos of the timer to see if he can rebuild it. We'll see... Robert

That's the same place that I posted about awhile back

I'll be interested to see if they can help you Robert. If so, then they may prove to be a valuable resource to other members.
