Few weeks ago I did a thread where I asked some help with the waterlevel in my miele. Yesterday I did a load at 60°, after the mainwash she refused to spin, neither on a spin only cycle or at the final spin. I bought her 2 years back from someone who payed for 10 years warranty. He bought her august 14th 2000 so normally the warranty will cover it. Who has a clue what is going on with my love ^^?

Miele Gold

I can't help with the fix - but that is one good looking machine!

When Did You Change The Settings?

If the machine continues through the washing and rinsing portion of the cycles, but does not spin in between, it could be you have activated (or deactivated depending upon how one looks at it), the spin cycles.

Miele washers have "no spin" programs for cycles such as permanent press or "no iron".

Now THAT is using some water! The cameras reflection makes it look like there is an eye in that machine watching you!

Am pretty sure that is the default rinse level and wash water level for "Woolens" and "Extended Pre-Soak" on my vintage Miele unit.

Oh, and there are five deep rinses at that level as well.

Well the rinse is not faulty! ^^

Problem is she did refused to spin before the first rinse, causing the program to be cancelled! (the picture was taking earlier srry if that wasn't clear ...) After the incident I did not unload her so the laundry sat there overnight, I tried her this morning and she spun immediatly. I still have no clue what's happening, but I'll try a full load later today. I phoned miele. The warranty cover 123,- euros. Miele itselfs asks 43 euro for tranportation + 60 euro / hour. Without parts. The local repairmen asks 50 euro / hour... That's new knowledge I'll hopefully not have to use ... We'll see!

Update!

The 2 repairguys came and went! Leaving me with a calibrated levelswitch and the knowledge that they will charge me 227 euros for a new controlboard be installed next thursday. What do you think, is it worth it?

Washers being discarded due to needing one part replaced, and customers obviously feeling it wasn't worth the bother.

Miele parts tend to run dear, and price quoted seems in line, but if you have a warranty why is Miele charging you for replacement parts?

For a machine only about ten years old, a mother board failure on a machine of Miele's reputed quality is a bit much, IMHO.

Only you can decide if the repair is "worth it", but if the machine is working fine otherwise, spending about 300 euros (parts & labour)probably isn't a bad deal. You certainly won't get another Miele for that price.

While the Miele servicemen are already there, have them check out the rest of the machine. It is always better to have Miele get things done on one trip, rather then call them out again for a whole new service call.

On this side of the pond Miele warrants parts and repairs for 90 days after the work is done. Make sure you put the machine through it's paces during this period and no matter how small you think any potential problem may be, get Miele back out if there is cause. Here, once that 90 day window is over, MieleUSA will *NOT* give an inch, but charge for a whole new service call and or parts.

Bon chance!

227 € ?

certainly worth it.
On the other hand: Now that you know what it is, you might as well search ebay for a similar board and fix it yourself.
Many of them go for less than 100,- here.
And one more thing: Contact your local second-hand washing machine place, they might have a suitable one in stock. (Ours here charge me just 45,- for a AEG PCB, not Miele, I know).
Installing should be pretty easy, unscrew, pull off the block connector, replug and screw the new one in again. Done.

That is a good point about Miele (though I am not a fan of them): The service prices are really realistic. You cannot get a second spare Miele machine for that price. If I were you, I'd have it a go.

Cheers, Joe

P.S.: If I can help you finding parts, then please let me know.

PS: Miele USA

just wanted to add that it really puzzles me how Miele USA is acting up (I cannot call it any other names, it is just what rotten brats behave like).

Examples:
- forcing their dealers a minimum sales value "or...."
- selling boring regular Henkel Persil detergent for a fortune
- letting their customers hanging "in between", just mid-air, no help really but but charging them fortunes

Miele Europe looks completely different seen from here:
- Inviting interested buyers or collectors to their database
- After a completed service call: Helping the customer to get along, rehearsing all "use & care" steps
- when having problems with certain laundry problems, there is a free call line (speaking about stain guides and what have you)
- extended warranty plan (if you wish)
- 95% guaranteed recyclability (no glued or compound parts, all materials printed or stamped on every single part), contact addresses of any local recycling firms readily available to anyone interested, just call.
- collectors' forum on their own website (DE that is) for anyone who wants to swap vintage Miele products.
And the list goes on....

WTF is going on with Miele America? Hello! Wakey-wakey!
You guys should kick them in the butt, this is not what I know about Miele.
A grumpy salute to Miele USA, yet a welcoming to all American Miele fans. Can help out if you like. Just drop a line.
Joe

I would love to have a Miele, but they don't exist in my area, and I certainly can't afford a new one. I'll get one some day, I suppose.

Water Level

Launderess,
I own both a W 780 that works the same as your W 1070 and a W 844 that's in the "cheaper" serie of AskoMiele W 900. So I know what I'm about to write :). What you wrote is true about 25+ y.o. mieles, NOT about this round 10 y.o. machine !! :)
As everyone can see it is on the main wash ("Lavage") of "delicates" cycle ("Linge fin"). Whatever frontloader has such a high water level on the delicate cycle, cause the wash action is somewhat a floating rollover and definitely not a tumble

The wool/handwash cycle has a very low water level, it is totally different than the wool cycle on older units. It actually doe not felt or shrink handwashable woolens ... it is very close to the wet clean cycle on the Little Giants

Also cotton cycle rinses on these units have such a high level just in case of a full towel load (or if the "maximum level rinse/ allergy mode" programmable function is activated)

@ ASKOMIELE : your "Gold 2000" actually is a Novotronic III type W 900 model ... so you'll find useful this old thread :

They came and went!

And left me again with a fully functioning washer! The repairmen was very nice. He checked the machine from top to bottom and installed a new airchamber and a new controlboard. I payed 209 euro for the repair. I asked him if it was worthed and when I said how much I payed for it two years ago he said that I can be sure it will give me at least another 10 years of pleasure. He even complimented me keeping it so clean! He gave me a full year warranty on the part and a month on the visit (meaning that if something fails withing a month they come and check without any charging).
