Well, I finally joined the ranks of the 21st century and bought a digital camera on Saturday. Here is a picture of the avocado Kenmore 70 Series washer I bought about three weeks ago. Other shots of the washer and dryer will be included in subsequent posts. Enjoy!

Inside the washer

Here's a shot inside the washer. I'm still amazed at the condition. Only a few places have required touch-up paint on the outer cabinet.

I'd replace the snubber while you're at it.

New snubber

Thanks, Jason, for the tip. I wondered if it should be replaced since the edges are curled in several places. Is this typical of a worn-out snubber or is it damaged?

It's worn. It will still work but will handle off balance loads and spin with less tub shake if you install a new snubber. You can also see how it's worn more towards the front than the back.

When you replace it, wipe the snubber plate with alcohol to remove any build up of anything slippery.

Rob -

What a GREAT machine! Very nice indeed. I love those. I have a '76 in white - makes me want to get it out of storage.

I agree with Jason about the snubber. If the spring is not rusted underneath (even if it is a little bit) you can get just the snubber pad, OR you can buy a whole kit with a new spring. They are easy to install. The pad alone shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks.

Yours really is worn. If it gets much worse the spring will start rubbing on the tub ring, which if nothing else is really noisy and eventually damaging to the ring.

New snubber ordered

A new snubber has been ordered and is on the way. Thanks, guys, for the tips! By all means, keep them coming! I'd really like to give this machine an extended life.
