Yes, it's right there in my profile - I want a matched Maytag washer and dryer set, preferably a late 50s set in Turquoise or Pink... Well, earlier last week a set in white turned up just north of Montreal. I missed it.. Two days later, a mid-70s set in Avocado turned up for a mere $50. I missed that too... I was inconsolable or as hubby said 'a proper little git'... Then, out of the blue, a neighbour in Ogden brought me this foundling...

This neighbour knows that I am a washer collector and had left me a message about a 'an older Inglis washer with a dial in the centre'. When I heard that, I was sure he meant a Maytag... And sure enough, when it was brought to me, it turned out to be a Maytag A206. Not in great shape comestically - that centre dial is barely legible...

The waher cycled through the wash-drain-spin-rinse-drain-spin perfectly. I had been warned that the washer had be decomissioned dbout issues with the hot water solenoid, and I had observed some weirdness during testing, but by golly, the solenoid shut off fine when I tested the washer in the basement! Here's a view during the final spin...

Does anyone have an idea as to the year of manufacture of this washer?? It's an A206, serial number 2173 18QY. I am guessing this is a BOL model... It has a black agitator, and I suspect it may be the Power-Fin style. The lint filter is turquoise and I am guessing the insert in the lint filer is a fabric softener dispenser.
Anyone have an idea as to the capacity of this machine? How likely is it that I might find a replacement dial and pushbuttons for a machine like this?? And, what is the matching dryer model to this one? I see lots of Maytag dryers and I just might be able to make a set! |

Didn't see those recent photos. The first load is done already, lol. I would not know the exact year of this washer, but I would guess between 1970 and 1972. |

Tim - Hubby actually HELPED me move it into the basement! Probably 'cause I parted with the 59 Kelvy range and refrigerator set...
Eugene - I am hoping this will attract a 'mated' dryer... And maybe it will inspire me to get my fingers out and get the WP600 top-loading dishwasher into production! Ralph - I missed a set in Harvest last year and I am kicking myself about that at least daily... LOL |

Hey Paul, CONGRATS on the "new" Maytag addition! If I am reading the date coding sheet correctly, it looks like that washer was built in November 1965. This would make it the FIRST model year (1966) of the "06" model line! AND.... with that BLACK agitator, that would make perfect sense! Unless I'm mistaken, the "Power fin" agitators are all turquoise and have a slot or gap between the base of the agitator and the "fin". This allows the "fin" to flex a little as the agitator moves back and forth (making it a bit more gentle on the clothes). I'd love to see a better photo of the agitator, but I'm guessing the agitator is Bakelite and has taller fins then the "Power fin". It should be the same agitator I have in my 1962 A700. So that washer should be a std capacity washer. Look at the number of holes down the side of the agitator (for the lint filter) of there are only 3, it's a std cap, if there are more, it's a large cap. On finding replacement buttons and a dial, contact RedcarpetDrew and/or QSD-DAN. They both have a WEALTH of knowledge RE: Maytags and may be able to assist in finding replacements! YAY! Best of luck! Hi Paul congratulations on your new toy, Dan is correct on the date MT didn't come out with the PP cycle on the timer Dial until the early 1970s. MT like WP did not make capacity claims for thier machines. Your MT is a 16 gallon tub it should wash 7-9 pounds of cotton clothing, your WP-Inglas is 18 gallons and should wash 9-11 pounds.

Nice 206. This was the same as the BOL A106 except it had a two speed motor. Nice, solid, no nonsense machine. Congrats. Now you should ask yourself "Ehh, who needs this Inglis anyway now that I have a REAL washer?" (Ducks and runs... FAST!)
123S? Nice. I'll bet I have some info on her around here and will look when I next have time. If I find some, I'll try to post in a separate thread so I don't end up highjacking Paul's wonderful thread... RCD |

I always found it odd that our 206 had the black agitator with aqua lint filter/softener insert. I presumed that at some point during its life before the machine ended up with us, the filter/softener assembly had been replaced.
After seeing pix and reading many Maytag threads here, it became clear that Maytag was placing aqua filter assemblies on black agitators at the factory. It still seems strange to me, and bit lame on Maytag's part to have made the agitator a two-tone affair. RCD or Dan, can you enlighten me about the logic behind this arrangement? Also, I agree that any dryer with the same color scheme on its panel will be a match. Our DG806 was a replacement for an electric model that came with the 206 washer. When we bought our house in 1990, there was only a gas connection for a dryer, so we had to switch out the gold electric for a white gas. The machines were in the garage so we didn't care. Even if it were gold, the 806 wouldn't have been an exact match because the panel was lighted, but any non-lighted panel will blend in perfectly. Ralph |

Excellent find. You have quite the collection going there. That Pink GE is really cool too. I think as Frigilux said, the power of attraction will draw a matching dryer. Appliance Osmosis |
