I'm currently in the USA at the moment but living at a camp without washers and dryers so its boring handwashing all the way!! (dislike)

Its sad the old UK wash in place is going into retirement for a little while.
I am planning on spending christmas and new year in my home town of sheffield as i am missing a good old English Christmas, i was going to be cheeky and ask to come and meet everyone if possible :-)

Good Luck With The Move

And its not just washers

vacbear58's profile picture
but vacuum cleaners too. Members on Vacuumland will have already seen pics of my Morphy Richards, but here is just a quick look at what Bob and Neil did for me. I still owe them big time for the thought and care they devoted on restoring a very sad looking machine - which was not even theirs! Not only does it look good, it runs quiet and smooth as well

The last round up

vacbear58's profile picture
It was a little sad that it would be the last wash-in at Mikes, but I know his next venue will be even better than the old one. It may not be immediatly apparant from the pics at the begninning of the thread how the washers and driers are, as far as possible, matched sets. And that is only a part of the collection :)

It was a shame some of the old familiar faces were not able to make it this time, so the guys had to make do with my old, and sadly far too familiar, face instead. But here's to the next time lads :)

Matt, if you are in the UK at the end of the year, there will be a "washer welcome" for you - most of the collectors are in the Midlands so close to Sheffield, or if you want a trip down south there are other collectors down here too, who would also be pleased to welcome you :)

'Al gives Jack a lesson in the art of not shrinking vest

I actually fell out of my chair laughing at that one, Mike!

Thanks so much for everything, it was a wonderful weekend, as it always is. Great appliances, great food, and most importantly, great company. Catching up with friends I've known for years, and meeting several new ones this time! And it's not the end of an era - it's the start of a new adventure, which is much more exciting! :)

Huge thanks from me personally to Al, too, for his hospitality, and for having taken me to and from each of our gatherings - without that, I wouldn't have been able to attend!

I didn't take many photos this time round, and my videos were of vacs - here's one from our journey up: passing one of my favourite places on Earth!

Mike (and others) - cheers for another fantastic weekend! Really enjoyed it, was great once again.

Unfortunately I was so busy I forgot to take photos myself, had a great twinny filled afternoon on Sunday with Al. I think the twinny bug has finally bitten ;).

Here's to many more meet ups, I'm sure others will agree that you may be able to replace the venue but you definitely can't replace all the good fun, food and hospitality.

Take care all,

Jon

(And may I please apologise for the state of my hair in the 5th photo, I look a bit windswept it seems lol)

Hi Mike

I was sorry not to be able to make this wash-in as would love to have finally been to one. Sadly, I had my own wash in going on, well, more of a clean in as have had builders working in the house and had layers of cement and plaster dust to clean up plus was rostered to do voluntary work on Sunday. Looks like you had a great time and I hope to make the next one!

The food is stunning and I love the soldier course of entrees in the white serving vessels. Trifle indeed, I could have eaten it all myself. Thank you for such a restful and calming interlude with you in your home.

Gary, you know 'hissy fit' is my middle name! Some have called my actions 'a hysterical and attention-seeking overreaction', but people must learn that I will NOT abide inferior-quality breakfast foods!!

Terry, great to hear from you! I loved your 'A trip down memory lane' feature in the latest newsletter :)

You have some very nice FL machines there Mike. I only wish the FL machines in US were of that quality. What machine did that lime green drum go to?

Moving

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hey Leon, good to hear from you, yes am moving, everything is going into storage for the interim, whilst I work out what to do next, bigger display space/ museum space etc!!

Am excited for the next stage of life just slightly daunted by moving all those machines, one way though, front loaders & stacked dryers are easier to move than TL`s IMHO, so dont envy you!!!...LOl

Are you moving far??

Keith, well you know what its like lumpin all those machines in & out of storage...LOL, it will be a few months until they see the light of day again, but hey...

Phil, glad you enjoyed the pics, will do some vids of the Servis machines before they go!!

Brent, washins are the same the world over, just like when we met all those years ago whilst you coverted the Bendix washer dryer..all good fun, great to meet like minded people and great friendships & connections are made..

RCD Andrew, my pleasure, glad you enjoyed the pics, its a thing with me doing names, I hate not knowing who people are in the pics!!!..LOl

Robert, yes and look where you are now, I need to be sorted that quick...Oh where`s the magic wand & broomstick, any tips appreciated!!!...LOl

Brandon, yes at least I can stack the dryers and although bulkey, they are lighter to move, I worked out all the washers & dryers stacked will fill a 40ft container wall in one go...twinnies will go on the other wall under a worktop with the small tubs/dryer & vacs on top...thats the theory anyway!!

Seamus, yep missed you this time, I had to spend more time checking plugs & hose connections, which is usually yours and Matts garage jobby!!

Paul, will get to catch up one day, hopefully not long!!!

Al, yes we staggered out way from table to washer, all good fun, and greateful for the help, (Al`s another Terry, stuff just happens, makes the cakes & food, he knows where everything is and is happy to get on with it)

Sorry Jack, couldnt resist that!!! Oh that building, how many times have we been past it, all that history inside it, if only we win the lottery tonight!!

Jon, was good to see you in action with the twinnys, and blast, I didnt take a pic of your AEG Lavamat 620 which you brought over...did anyone else..Al, Paul?? It was great to catch up with you on thursday on your own turf as well, just putting the Dixan through its paces in the Zug!!!Ta..

Jon & Matt arrived friday, we set Jon`s AEG up and I`d done a curry & rice with nibbles so we just pulled up three chairs, sat in front of it and "Watched the WasherTelly" all night!!

Matt, great to finally meet you, (now what accent was that...LOL..just kidding) I hope you got a sense of how the machines worked after all the laughter & food...& that little joke of exclusive washing powder for the Zug indeedy!!

Oh Gary I choked when I saw that, me poor carpet and me AldiLiddle cornflakes, "Worra pile of old s****t"!!!lol .....Nowthen go and post the other one you did...go on the`re not back till next week!!!

Kelly, glad you enjoyed the pics, the house does lend itself to parties, if its not the appliance guys its my large family with the kids on sleepovers, and then the neighbours all think its a safe haven and "Adult Downtime Space" which is great...The trifle was an old recipe made by Bob & Neil, like a traditional xmas trifle, bodouir fingers, strawberries soaked in sherry, strawberry pink blancmange, layer of custard, & whipped cream dotted with white malteasers & strawberries..lovely

Melvin, the coloured tubs belonged to the Titan washing machine, launched early 2000, to compete with dyson as the first of larger machines, but had a few problems and as it was privately owned didnt make it to maket, although it has been launched abroad recently, the unique feature was the inner drum could be removed to "walk around the house, fill it up and then go to machine, or take it to the line etc after... the colours are Orange, Green & blue, Whites , Lights & Darks...it heated and pumped wash solution through the baffles at high pressure like a shower...

Richard, you ask that question like I`m gonna use it...LOl, the boys went shopping for cider and wine and saw on the shelf "This new powder for Zug machines" hhmmmm well, never be so affronted in all my life...own brand in this house...good job Danksy wasnt here....!!!mind you we have been called own brand snobs by certain Bostonians...Cough!!

Steve, yep a grand crew, and lots more of them about, just difficult to get everyone together etc...I wonder what you`d make of it, all those front loaders, twinnys & powders...one day perhaps!!

Richard, glad you enjoyed it as ever, I was very thankful for all the flicking of covers you did, Flick,Flick, covering all those machines at short notice due to the downpour...didnt dampen the spirits though, hey didnt you take a pic of the Maytags after cleaning...LOL...they do need a renovation and overhaul, but worked superbly, very quiet etc...heres the Hotpoint Liberator 1509/10 back from workshop & spa...lovely

Fantastic, I’m still developing the PCB’s for my project; the software seems to work well, just the hardware letting it down.

MIKE
As you have ordered me to show THE PICTURE I shall, but let it be known that it was you who insisted i show it.

AL
That Electrolux cleaner is absolutely beautiful, the design is so elegant, it was i would say worth every penny and effort to bring it back, a wondeful machine.

MIKE
Those Hotpoint toploaders are as you know my favourite Hotpoint machines and again like Al, the effort is sooo worth it when they come back from Marks looking and working so well, so well done, a set of machines to be proud of.

MAYTAGS
It is great to see fots of those lovely machines, again the styling is brilliant but of course in the internal shots show the very sturdy build qaulity, very nice.

JACK
Well Jack how you describe yourself is not how I remember you, drink in hand, ciggy in the other, having a bit of dance, big smile on your face........but you are of course right to expect premium qaulity breakfast foods.

THE PICTURE
This is the only other candid picture taken that I know of..................

Mike... Love the Titan machine, im forever not using the washing basket when on the way out to the line and dropping things. Sheets also get covered in dirt when they fall out too!

The tesco value powder! Ive used tescos own brand for whites before but whats this value like?

Surely a test was done to assertain its performance?

great to see you all had such a great time, everyone looks on top form, a real tribute to you all that there are more photos of happy faces than washers, so sorry to have missed this one.

I enjoyed the captioned photos, the thought of me and john being on hoovermatic backup lol.

Mike all the love and best for the times ahead,I was quite moved seeing the old pheasent, look forward to seeing you soon.

When the lottery win comes your way, can we have a big cosy sofa in front of the washer demonstration area, had seamus and matt over this weekend and after several loads in the keymatic we came to the conclusion a sofa was the way to go lol.

Speak soon Mathew

Nice Maytag; my childhood washer. Looks like it has not seen too much use in its time, as the print on the buttons and dial is not faded. Imagine seeing one of those across the pond. Cool.

Have a good one,

Hiya Mike....

I cant get my head around the fact that its over a week since your last Shavington based do!

Fantastic time had and great to meet Chris, Matt and Robbie (hi guys!) and catch up with everyone else.

To Mike....all I can say is thankyou for having the patience to arrange your wash ins.
Just been back and checked the photo archive and my first attendance was on October 8th 2007 and the magical find of the moment was your Servis Mk72 Electronic (piccy attached below).

To think of all the machines that have graced your kitchen floor over the years (and occasionally pi$$ed themselves all over it!).....many many happy memories.

Thanks for helping to re-kickstart my childhood interest in all things washery. Three and a half years down the line and you have a LOT to answer for! lol.

Onwards to the future.

Cheers Mike.

Highest Regards
Paul

Oi Jon!

You take care of WD1012 wont you! lol.

She may be a bit battered around the edges, but worked quietly and efficiently the last time we powered her up - blimey - probably two years ago! How time flies.

As I mentioned, just keep checking the soundness of the epoxy and have fun with it.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Mike sorry i couldnt make the farewell do, i know how stressful and emotional moving can be. Just a warning if you are putting machines in storage, in 1991 my parents put everything into storage including their 1989 polar white hotpoint 9544, 6 month later when we finally moved home it came back dark nicotine yellow, we thought it had perhaps been covered in an oily rag etc,but it seems that keeping it in the dark (ie a container) causes white plastic to yellow. It has slowly lightened to a creamy white as it now sits in a utility room with a window. Its now 21 and still going strong as my Mams daily washer , a little battered looking but sounds a quiet (or Noisy) as it did in 1989. So watch out for any of the white plastic models you have , if its going to be a time in storage.

I normally get the job of plumbing in the washer /dishwasher in after a house move for friends but me thinks you wont need that help or have lots of friends who can do the same, but the offers there!

Richard
