John and I found a beautiful one like this, but someone had removed the drum pulley and, I think, the motor so it was basically a cabinet. You wonder what the hell people think that they are going to do with these parts. They are often what you find, covered with dust, under the basement work bench at the estate sale.

Wow, that Philco is in beautiful shape. Isn't this the match to Steve's pre-Bendix, Dexter-made Philco?

I wonder if this was made in Fairfield.

Matching washer

In Nov., 1958, while visiting relatives in Milwaukee, I saw a television commercial for the new Philco washer with "High Frequency Washing Action." They showed the old Philco washer with the metal agitator agitating and looking very crowded with, I believe, 6 sheets. The narrator made the comment about this washer being overloaded with 6 sheets. Then they showed the new Philco humming along with 6 sheets as it pulled in a seventh sheet. It was rare to see operating appliances in television commercials although there was a chance of seeing a washer in a detergent commercial, except for Cheer. Not even in magazine ads was there more than a corner of the machine shown in a Cheer ad.
