This seems to go against the environmentalist's who are really concerned about water and energy usage. They would love to have every old appliance go to the recycler. Yet so many people want others to benefit from their old machines and there are many low income people who can benefit from them. The environmentalist's are hurting more people by their overzealousness than needed.

Well I am an environmentalist and I collect old washers, restore some and give them away. I am NOT trying to get rid of old washers. If you take account of the environmental cost of disposing of an old washer and mannufacturing a new one, it is of doubtful benefit to replace a functioning older washer with a new one. However when people are replacing a washer with a new one ANYWAY, then I fully support them choosing a high efficiency one.
So enough greenie bashing please.

Chris.

environment

Used to be a saying during WW II here in the US

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without"
