I grew up with a Zanussi S218T, and then later a 1996 Jetsystem 1200 (model number escapes me). Fantastic washers! Shame they see, to have gone down the pan lately

^It's easier when it's your own machine because you look at it all the time :P. I have an Electrolux BW450 dishwasher and I love it.

I haven't seen Mum's Zanussi in 4 years now, as she replaced it with a Bendix branded Zanussi when the bearings went on the old one. I remember, it was the model with the programs on the dispenser drawer and the more square top, as opposed to the later rounder top models. It also had the pop-out dial and variable temp dial.

My Mum has a 2001 Indesit, which is awful, however her 1992 Indesit that she had before it was brilliant.

The Elux is brilliant! It does a pre-wash, main wash, cold rinse, hot rinse and dry cycle in 50 minutes. It washes anything! It really has it's work cut out for it in this house as I cook a lot sauces and soups etc that are often difficult to get off, but it has no problem with any of it, and all my dishes come out spotless!

Is that even physically possible unless you have your washing machine draining INTO the dishwasher??

Love it....

Been reading through this thread with interest tonight as i do love Zanussi. Shame theyre not what they once were, but least they've not reached rock bottom like several other makes. At least not yet anyway.

AquaCycle - i think the Jetsystem from 1996 wouldve been an FJ1295 or (if it had RSI written in turquoise on the powder drawer) it wouldve been an FJ1296. Both of these had 5 buttons, but the FJ1296 had all 5 placed together, the FJ1295 had the 4 buttons together and the power button slightly further along. Both had pop-in, pop-out program and spin speed dials, though the 1295 ones sat totally flush, the 1296 dials were a tiny bit curved so sat slightly proud of the facia when pushed in.

Pictured below is the FJ1296. If it's not this i'll post a pic of the FJ1295.

Liam.

Below is the pic of the FJ1295 - glad to be of assistance!

I saw that rare Washcraft on eBay, looks wicked. Too far for me though i'm afraid.

Theyve not done a bad job at all of spraying that FL881, though like Darren, i won't be spraying my baby (FL1012) anytime soon!

My mum's nextdoor neighbour has the FJS1397 - I often sneak in a listen as when both of our back doors are open in summer you can hear their machine spin :-).

Mum looked at the Jetsystems briefly when we bought our WM64, but even then they were signifcantly more expensive than the Hotpoint Aquarius. Shame really as I love the timer-based Jetsystems.

Zanussi ZDF131

Glad you like it,.

In my last rented house we had a ZDF231, which was identical to this aside from an extra programme and another button it seems, it was quite frankly the most horrible dishwasher I could ever imagine. Didn't clean very well at all and the racks were just horrendous, the top one especially. Would never have a modern Zanussi dishwasher after that, was worse than my Mum's Ariston!!!

On the other hand, that house also had a Zanussi Jetsystem FJS1425W, which was fantastic for a modern machine.

My friend has a Zanussi like your grans, but it's the full size model with 1000rpm spin.

Matt

oh god

Matt it seems that the old zanussi you used to have was just as bad as my old shitty candy. luckly after two years the programme board whent and we got this. the first one they snt to us whent flying around the truck when they deliverd it to us then they came to take it and give us a replacement and it is exelent!. did they really do a fullsize version of my nan's zanussi?

Post# 456569 , Reply# 41   8/12/2010 at 19:36 (5,004 days old) by FL1012 ()
Jon....

Just think how bored you'd be by now if your Mum had bought an FJS1397W - many of them are still working today! They go bloody nuts on spin though, move more from side to side than they do round n round. How nothing breaks i'll never know.

aegokocarat youve got the same generation dishwasher as i've got in my house. Mines the ZDF511 with the push buttons for the programs. Probably works very similarly though. Like Matt, i found the top rack especially badly laid out. I stupidly didn't pay much attention to it at the time, just trusted it'd be fine as it was Zanussi & my parents old DW907 from the 90s was well laid out. The house is rented now but if i'd stayed there i mightve changed it for a Whirlpool 6th Sense or one of the Hoover Nextras as i quite liked the look of them. What theyre like for reliability though, im not sure.

I think your nans washer would be an FL832. If it's 4.5kg then that's the standard size for that era of Zanussi, but if it's only 4kg then it would be smaller in depth to normal. The 1000rpm 4.5kg version is the FL1032 i believe.

Liam.

Liam,

I was also wondering about the slimline bit too?

I dont remember Zanussi making a slimline machine like Bosch or Beko do now, Zanussi's answer to the capacity and size was the Studio machines at 3kg.

Cant see why they would make 4.5kg/4kg/3kg machines in the same run.

Im also going to stick up for Zanussi dishwasher racks and say I never had issues with my 2005 SLimline Zanussi DW, one could fit in tall wine glasses and other odd shaped mugs pots and glasses in with no problems.

I suspect it comes down to being used to something then having to change. Had those who have issues with them only been used to those ones would the complaints be there? Like anything else one must always learn how to use a new product effectively from scratch using basic principles in the matter.

Rob

Slimline.....

Hi Rob

Yeah i was curious about the slimline bit, but now that aegokocarat has given the model number (albeit appearing somewhat abrupt) i've had a dig around and can see the FL853 is only 16.5" in depth & has a 4kg drum, compared to the 22.7" depth my 4.5kg FL1012 is. Not something i was aware of Zanussi doing as i also thought they used the Studio range for the small capacity versions. Maybe the Studio range came in later in the 90s, when the white facia machines were launched.

It would make the FL853 a rare model these days i would think. Quite a big saving in cabinet depth for a relatively small trade-off in load capacity though. Makes you wonder why the other machines were so deep in comparison to this.

With regard to Zanussi dishwashers though, maybe the slimline racks are still a decent design on the newer models. I've not used one so i can't comment, but their older models always seemed decently laid out to me.

Unfortunately the top rack on the newer fullsize dishwashers (at least on my 2008 ZDF511 model) is pretty bad. It's almost totally flat, with no obvious angled bits to put glasses & mugs into. Just a plate section, which doesn't seem to hold anything other than really thin saucers. It really is quite a strange design, with bits of it more or less un-useable. I think the current Zanussi dishwashers are still using this rack design, defo worth a look! As i said i wish i'd paid more attention when i chose it, lesson learnt for sure!

Liam.

Hey aegokocarat-Haven't had a chance to post a proper piece apart from that silver FL881 until today.

I am a huge fan of zanussi/electrolux machines. Always have always will. Though I am sadden by the current dip in quality and really annoyed that they have outsourced some sh*tty chinese machines and stuck there name on that they are selling through comet.

I have 3 zanussi machines in my garage. A WDT1061/A Washer/dryer, a zanussi Nexus styling WDT1084 which is in need of major repair the drum has collapsed!! the seller lied to me but thats another story...and I have a Current Zanussi ZWF12070G1 which was my main machine but is now in the garage with the others as I have replaced it with a 9kg LG.

The ZWF12070G1 Is really good. Much like my mums AEG from 2003 which is bascially a zanussi XC machine which were the last of the well made zanussi's I think Liam will agree with me there.

The gripes I have with it are, there are no progress indicators. I mean how difficult would it be to put a Wash, Rinse, Spin light. Instead I got Door Locked, On & End light. Great.

The Rinsing is fairly good but as it was a W1 model which is the 2nd release of a zanussi design, the first ones have extra rinse button and the W1 models end up with a bloody half load button. I don't need that!! lol.

The WDT1081/A Is my favourite of them all. I've stuck a pic of it here for you.

I've been waiting for an Electrolux with an opaque door to come my way but alas they are usually a zillion miles away from me.

Nice Aqualtis btw. How are you getting along with it?

Darren

hi Darren i love my hotpoint it is very good at washing quilts and shirts plus i suffer with a rare kind of exzima and ever since i got the washer in 2006 my skin hasen't been as irritated as it was when i had a 7kg hoover family and before that i had an indesit witch lasted no longer than 18 months
and before that i had a old hoover softwave in almond and brown
i got it from the meyther tydfyl plant in '97 (i live in wales)
had it for 6 years from there on in the erly 2000's it broke and then i got an indeshit then another hoover then hotpoint my current one from 2006

Ah the old softwave! I'm surprised it didn't last that long. I have had 2 Hoover newwaves and a classica which is basically was a softwave was! I always liked the front fill!
