well ok. In june 2010 the german test facility Test.De schocked the washing machine world with bad news. One of the machines they tested for long livety had "Exploded".

It was Candy GO 1460 D That had exploded. The drum had collapsed and destroyed the machine totally. Plastic pieces had been flying in the air. Not good news for the Candy group.

After some talk with the Candy group they agreed on that this has happened before. Later on there were signs that more Candy machines had failed the same way.

Now its:

Candy Go 145 Smart Grand 0

Candy Go 1482D

And also a Hoover Vision that broke down at a german prison.

Not much more has been heard of this. So far...

I have a friend that works at one place that use to sell Candy machines. He states the following:

"We know about this already in april 2010. The first case happened then. It was an Candy Go 1482D that had exploded. When trying to find out how it happened on this machine we found that a girls Bh had made several damages to the drum. We thus belived it was because of this damage.

Up to this date (12 august) we have had 14 more cases with this machine. In july we stopped selling the machine due to the many cases. I have checked the drum carefully in the unsold machines and you can even press down the drum slightly by hand. Think about what happens at spin with clothes in at 1400 rpm."

He showed me some photos. However these cannot be shared here due to he wanting to be anonym. There are however some pics from the german report that is aviable that i can show here.

Hi Fredriksam,
Am I right in saying its the later welded tub models that are exploading rather than the split tub models?

That is scary!

Someone could have been seriously injured if they were near that!

My shower is right in front of the washing machine (like 2 feet). I cant imagine what would happen if I was in it whilst something like that happened! :O

Or imagine loading the dryer or something right next to it! hmm.... That cant be good

Servisslimine: At the test at Test.De the machines broke at 752 resp 1328 washes. The first one would be about 5 years use. This was the GO 1460 D model.

As of the Go 1482D model it seems the drum is even weaker than the 1460 one. It is the 1482D Model that had 15 cases where the drum broke and exploded.

Bertrum: it is the later models with the welded tub.

This is just insane! How dangerous! How the hell did these pass the testing stage! Or did they explode in the factory?!

Candy oh Candy...

Well, I did some research on the internet about domesitic appliances exploding.. Candy just had a bad luck that their machines exploded in a Test laboratory.. If it didn"t we probobly wouldn"t know anything about it. Seems that their stupid laboratory is more important than households.

Well, the media "pumped up" a story abit -- that"s their job :O
On forum I saw a women whose Indesit broke the same way, on this site there is an "antonio merloni made" washer also exploded this way..

What buggs me is that comments about that Antonio merloni washer was like "it is a setup" or "just small number" - Nobody tells that on Candy.. is there 1000000 cases reported?? or a small bunch that went only in Germany?
Also I read cases where the door glas Exploded and glass flown all over the room (Hoover, Indesit, Beko).. they didn"t make such a huge story of it... maybe it wasn"t dangeorus enough..

And it has happen again...

This time a toploaded variant and a GO1660.

But first. Nrones: It all began when the german labatory told the press about what has happened. After that, readers that had machines that exploded, moved forward and told their story.

For example, In 2009 at a german prison, a Hoover exploded. No one of them told anout it then. After the test they understood it was related to the Candy in the test.

About the Indesit: Might have been same problem with the machine there or maybe the heater come loose or something. Havent seen any pictures of the Indesit.

Merloni machine: This looked quite faked. No damages to the room. Even the softener bottles were standing beside the machine. Ok, maybe the user cleaned up some before taking pics. Who knows.

Door glass explosion: This seems to have happened with Beko, Indesit, Whirlpool and Hoover. However not very many cases. I dont know what to think about that

I came thinking about something: At theis forum we have had two users that had misluck with their hoover/candy machines.
Dont remeber their names though

First it was the member that had that Hoover vision with Jet spray. He was happy with it, but suddenly his machine spin itself to pieces. Of what he told the unbalance system had gone faulty during spin so it had smashed itself bad.

Next user had a 7 kg Hoover vision. It worked pretty fine but the motor smelled burned and he had to change motor twice. This must have been in 2008-2009. Also his machine had bad balancing problems.

What if they after this failure on Hoover/Candy motors just changed the drum to a cheaper or lighter one. Suddenly they had the exploding machine problem.

Just some thinking. What you think about it.

By permit from the friend at the store here is some quotes from the people that had their machine "exploded" included pics after the the text.

"we washed only some shirts, when suddenly a big bang from the machine was heard. When we came into the laundry room, plastic pieces were everywhere."

"The machine had gone berserk one earlier time jumping so much the pump had to be replaced. Very bad unbalance in the machine"

"When i came home, there was a disaster in the laundry room. The motor from the machine was on the floor. Clothes and plastic pieces everywhere. The dryer that had stood above the machine had to be replaced"

"The machine was noisier than before. My cat was inside the laundry room when it happened. Shes ok now but she was really scared."

" I had just turned on the spin programme when there was a big bomm that rocked the house. The machine had exploded."

...

Candy didn"t changed anything on the drum.. just bad connected two sides.. Thank god NOT on all machines. Is it only in germany, or somwhere else?
I know that this is a VERY big scandal, but it is not that big, as some people said (not on this forum though). I just hate that you can see everywhere ALOT of ridicolous things about Candy washing machines that aren"t even true.

Do you know anything about Candy solving a problem or helping customers? I would like to see what they done from their side :)

About door explosion... you don"t know what to think.. neither do I, but it just seems that some people suddenly start knowing what to think just when sth with Candy appears, that is the thing that annoys me. It is not just with explosions, it is with common things aswell (for example when circuit board fails on Candy it"s a disaster, and when the same thing happends to E-lux it is no comment or "don"t know what to think".
For me it"s ok not to like something (eg. I don"t like Inesit for a bunch of reasons, but I am not writing 1000words text EVERYWHERE about it, but it seems if you 100times repeat a lie, it becomes true).I don"t mean this explosion is a lie, but alot of other things, that are actually a backup of reaction of this whole story are! This isn"t related to YOU, but this generally is a thing with SOME washer fans.. On YouTube you can see good and bad stories.. while here... rather just bad :P because there is probobly less people from europe than on YouTube here but that is not thing for discussion ;)

Anyway for the end of the story, Candy knows that if sth like this happend on some other series, it would be a REAL disaster (not just "media" disaster), so they are starting new parts of the factory where machines are going to be tested (9000 60c washes I think), so therefore maybe this was "good" and Candy will make higher quality washers. I trust them, as they solved the circuid board problem in UK, after Which? reported it, and now nobody is complaining about that now ;)

but at the end of the story, me and you could write 10000 posts, and it would be without changes.. some people will hate Candy, others will adore it, that"s just a way it is, no matter what you or I say.

cheers,
Dex :D

I love Candy!

And I second every single word nrones wrote! :D

To me the black sheep of the bunch is Whirlpool because I had many bad experiences with this brand while I can't say anything vaguely negative about Candy in all the years I've got machines from them. Also goes for Indesit, my house in Bologna is fitted with a complete set of Indesit appliance and I couldn't be more pleased!

Anyway, that Candy machine had the disgrace of falling apart in a testing laboratory otherwise it would have been one of the "standard" faults that happen more or less to all the brands, regardless of maker and price and country.

There is more to this than just one explosion. At the test center it was not just one washer but two washers that exploded. And several people who bought a Candy had the same problem. This isn't the same as washers with a bad reputation, because those most of the time aren't a threat to the lives of the consumers. Exploding machines however are. People were just lucky not being around the machine when it happened.

@ foraloysius: I never said that is just one explosion. I said it"s a small bunch of them... I said that because some people said it happend to around 400.000 cases (ridiculous, isn"t it?).

@ Rolls_rapide: THANKS FOR THE LINK!!! :D but I don"t understand the whole report... once they say UK isn"t affected, then they say it is... anyway.. Which? recommended Candy washing machine :P That"s the funniest part actually... with Candy there"s no middle LOL On some rewiew website you see bunch of people rated them 1* and also other bunch of people reted them 5* xD NO middle.. From UK test facility recommended, and from German NOT recommended :P

@ dj-gabriele: People from italy, spain, france, EX-Yugoslavia, poland, russia, chezc republic, and half of them in the UK tend to Adore Candy... while people from western countries (like germany) doesn"t.. it was like that, and it will be like that.. they love miele, and Bosch, and we love Candy ;)

Now, if anyone of you want to see new vid of my Candy GrandOPlus (Candy sister of HOOVER Dynamic) here is the link of the whites wash ;) You can see my other vids by visiting my channel: www.youtube.com/nrones...

cheers, and thank you all for replying! :D
