From GE's press room:
LOUISVILLE, KY – APRIL 16, 2010 – (NYSE:GE)—It is the late-night dilemma of many busy Americans: keeping their eyes open another hour or so to wash and dry clothes they just realized they needed the next morning. GE has an answer that's much better than staying awake through another late-night talk show: the GE Profile™ Frontload Steam Washer that cleans clothes and gets them ready to wear by morning— right out of the washer! The washer's innovative “Overnight Ready” cycle washes clothes, then removes so much moisture that clothes are comfortable to wear without transferring to the dryer.* It's the first unit in the industry with the ability to wash small loads** on an overnight cycle. The cycle even helps prevent clothes wrinkling compared to clothes that are left sitting in the washer overnight. The Overnight Ready cycle keeps clothes moving gently up to eight hours to remove moisture content. Two easy-to-clean filters trap lint for excellent results. “Having both that fresh-from-the-laundry feeling and a couple more hours of sleep is a huge bonus for today's busy lifestyles. Now you don't have to sacrifice your shut-eye to get the laundry done,” said Jennifer Schoenegge, Product Manager, Clothes Care. “Whether it's the kids' soccer uniforms, a pair of jeans for casual Friday, or a few dress shirts, the GE Profile Frontload Steam Washer finishes the laundry while you sleep.” “Laundry Your Way” lets consumers take control with new products, choices and features. When the GE Profile Frontload Steam Washer and Dryer is paired with the optional pedestal (sold separately), the owner can activate SmartDispense™ technology, which automatically adds just the right amount of detergent or fabric softener and takes the guesswork out of doing the laundry. Select a regular drying cycle and the dryer uses steam to get clothes virtually wrinkle-free! With a half-dozen new washer-and-dryer pairs added to the lineup in 2010, GE Appliances is offering consumers more ways than ever to have clothes and household linens cleaned and dried quickly, satisfactorily, and with the greatest of ease. In addition to the GE Profile Frontload Steam Washer and Dryer, other new frontload units include the features most often requested by individuals and families to keep up with the demands of home laundry, including Adapative Vibration Control technology, which optimizes the washer to the consumer's specific floor type reducing vibration and cycle time by maximizing spin speed. These include smaller-sized models that can either fit neatly under the counter or be installed in a stacked design. New products also include side-by-side topload models equipped with the largest capacity available on the market.*** *2.5 lbs. AHAM spec allows drying of one pair of jeans, three cotton dress shirts, two soccer uniforms, three sets of crib sheets, one dress shirt, one pair of khakis, and two sets of scrubs. **2.5 lbs. AHAM spec allows drying of one pair of jeans, three cotton dress shirts, two soccer uniforms, three sets of crib sheets, one dress shirt, one pair of khakis, and two sets of scrubs. *** Established through review of leading competitors' product specifications available to the public in March 2010. The models aren't up on the web site, yet - but the Quick Specs are. Alex |

"Lack of prior planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part" Busy doing WHAT? Indulging themselves further? I fail to see why putting a meal on the table every night and getting the laundry done once or twice a week is deemed difficult. We never had too much stuff or too much or too little clothing but were also not allowed to wash one or two items at a time. How utterly wasteful! |

Seems like a pretty ridiculous cycle. I don't want my damp clothes tumbling overnight. If you're only going to wash 2.5 pounds of clothes, use the Quick cycle and put 'em in the dryer.
And how does "clothes are comfortable to wear" compare to actually being dry? I'm with Malcolm on this one: Do it right and produce a combo unit. |

...Bee-Zar to me. Quick wash & dry,30-40 miutes max? Minimal 'punishment' for not planning ahead, instead of the GE cycling all night to give you damp duds in the morning. |
