Looks direct-drive, but an early version.

Whichever it is, I would grab it and quickly and completely restore it if I needed a washer and wanted a toploader with an agitator cause the end of the line is coming up faster than a cliff in a roadrunner cartoon.

24" DD

I'm going to go with Gansky's call with it being an early DD machine. It is harder to tell the difference on the BD and DD with the 24" machine because even on a BD machine, the lid takes up a good deal of space. This machine may even have a spin-drain but without a money shot (clothes guard) there isn't anyway to tell I suppose.

We had this machine in a slightly newer encarnation back in 95-96 when I was a kid. Mom bought 2 of them, the 1st was DOA but the second one lasted through 2003 when they moved. It had started leaking from the pump and I didn't know anything about working on a washer then let alone my mother letting me anywhere near it with a screwdriver. Ours was a true BOL with the 2.5 cu. ft. tub and no water level. A true one knob wonder. Temps were on the timer and I think only warm and cold at that. She kept the machine after she moved even though there was no washer hook up in her house. It was in an shed in the backyard and consequently suffered some chassis rust. I fixed the pump and sold it the local high school for the cost of the pump as their field house needed a new washer (Maytag Atlantis w/ stripped tranny). It's been almost a year and it's still chugging along, a shame about the rust, it's a hardworking washer. Mom did about 10-15 loads per week in it from 95-2003 and aside from the leak, never balked once.

I'd love to find a matching set of these in DD form, there was a matching dryer as well. I'm in no hurry myself because I think the Hotpoint/FF may outlive us in this neighborhood!

You can tell by the clear protecter ring around the timer dial.

ridge around top

the little ridge around the top indicates DD-24"BD is smooth
