A few years ago, I disassembled the corkscrew agitator on a buddies MOL WP washer. After removing the screw, the top separated rather easy from the bottom (fins) with a little tug.

My TOL WP agitator won't budge. Looks exactly the same, but after removing from the washer, the top (auger) won't remove from the bottom (fins). I tugged really hard (just to the point to where I didn't want to break it). Should I tug harder? I don't want to damage...not sure how these thing fit together.

I found a cool turquoise WP corkscrew agitator (make me think of the Maytag color agitators) and I want to replace the white agitator currently in the machine.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Tabs

I thought there were two tabs inside the top of the auger. Of course, it has been a while and agitators have changed a bit.

Seems to be two tabs on the turq agitator--near the screw?

Turq Agi?

If it's from a Kitchen Aid, you may want to think twice. I believe that agitator puts additional strain on the motor and mechanism. Kitchen Aids were built a little stronger, but you can sub KA parts for WP parts.

Check first and yay for turquoise,
Dave

The tabs are for factory assembly.  They're otherwise not needed.  When replacing broken dogs, the instructions advise to break the tabs off.

I don't believe Whirlpool used the turquoise color on their models.  VolvoGuy is correct, KA did.  The fins are larger and the base is a larger diameter that covers the perfs in bottom of the basket.  KA three-speed machines used the medium motor speed for high agitation to reduce aggressiveness but the larger fins and base still provided effective rollover.

Well, the motor is 3 speed in a TOL WP from 2003 - should be OK, besides, I only wash about 5 loads a month in that machine. Picture attached--doesn't say KA...doesn't say WP...but diggin' that chrome cap on top. Looks baby blue in pic, but it's a turq for sure. If nothing else, I'll prop it up in the laundry room. Anyway to get the shine back into the plastic (see base)?

Yes, that's the agitator and softener dispenser with chrome ring in my 1991 KAWE760WAL0 and my parents' 1994 KAWE670BWH0.

Feeling of the edges, may need a little sanding - what should I use?

I could be wrong but that agitator does not look like the wide base version, compare it to the one you took out, looks like the smaller base, I have a KA with a big base, but I can't stand the blue color, so I switched the corkscrew portion from a Whirlpool white one, thats all you see anyway with a load washing....there are both bases available in blue(turq)

I have killed a tranny with the wide base in a Kenmore, but it can move some water....

It'll be a couple of weeks before I get back home (Labor Day), so that will be a neat little project. The WP days are numbered anyway...waiting for my sis to build her house---gave it to her. Going to replace it with a SQ when she picks them up...so, thought I'd have some fun in the meantime. I already replaced it with the straight vane type and had some fun with that for awhile.
