ok so my tricity bendix aw1053w is now around 9 and a half years old and is now due for its first major repair...the drum bearings, but to be honest its not too bad at the moment as there is no noise like thunder yet but there is knocking from the bearings if i lift the drum by hand but what i want to know is if anyone has one or has had one, is it normal for the bearing to go so early on a machine as it seems to be a bit soon in its life for the bearings to be going

Hmm. Not for the faint hearted. Your Tricity Bendix is based on the old Zanussi design with the solid outer panel as oppossed to the later split cabinet and solid drum paddles. Bascially the same as my Zanussi WDT1061 inside. I've had the lid off that as it kept tripping as one of the hoses to the dispenser had worked loose and was leaking down onto the electrics and motor.
I have a Zanussi WDT1085 washer/dryer that requires a bearing change. I've never been able to use it as the drum has literally collapsed. When I picked it up and he told me the drum wasn't going around it was pitch black and I assumed the belt had come off. I cant bring myself to do it and i've had for months. I'm weighin up whether to pay a repairman to do it or to scrap it at present. Lol I found this custom zanussi on ebay. they didn't do a bad job! Darren |

Time wise that’s good by some manufactures today. My AW1053 is a little older and I have not had to touch the bearings yet. Only a new motor taco, drain pump, temperature probe and had to send the timer away for repair. It’s a 50/50 split tub and a job not for the faint hearted as you will have to completely strip down the machine and lift the complete tub, weights, out of the shell, undo all those bolts to split the two halves to get the shaft and spider out. And can be a bit of a pig to seal water tight along the split after. Good luck with it. Best to be organised with a large working space. |

well as i said at the beginning the bearings havent started their deafening rumble yet, theyve probably got about a year still in them so i still have a while to think about what im going to do.
so far ive thought of taking the hotpoint 9534 over to my dads as the temporary machine and ill move the tricity bendix over beside my servis tumble dryer, then when i get a chance ill have a good look and see, but thats only if i do all of the above, if not ill probably keep the 9534 at my dads as the daily driver and either use it untill it breaks again and ill replace it or ill just get a new machine or a second hand machine from somewhere nearby, but untill then ill keep monitoring noise levels and drum movement and ill just see what happens. phil |

Phil
If its deffo the bearings its gonna be easier and cheaper to replace sooner than later as the more wear the machine gets you can start doing more damage to the machine. Talking through expereince when i just run a hottie into the ground and when it come to changing the bearings the spider was damaged also i had done the aramtage in on the motor as it was having to cope with more work. |

i thought about that point about replacing the bearings sooner rather than later but i havent spoken to my dad to see what he wants me to do, and if i can help it i really dont want to get rid of the machine in the near future.
also can anyone tell me what type of motor the tricity bendix uses, ive been wondering for a long time now and have never thought to ask, thanks phil |
