Here is a video of my 1957 James Dishwasher Dispenser. Note that this is a glass vial detergent dispenser (not a detergent cup) and may be the only one of its' kind known to exist. First the machine goes through a rinse (not dispensing the detergent) and then when it begins to fill for the main wash you can see the detergent quickly being dispensed by the incoming water. There is a diverter which is not visible but which is moved by a cam to allow the water to either enter the dispenser or not. The view is of course through the glass lid of James.

VIDEO SHOWING THE END OF THE CYCLE

Here you can see how James automatically opens his glass lid to allow the steam to escape and allow the dishes to dry.

Bob!

Thank YOU for posting these very interesting videos!

How well does James do the dishes compared to a newer machine? I was thinking of a load of scraped, but very dried-on dishes.

How well does James wash ?

I have a whole house water filter here on an artesian well type water supply. I also chlorinate and have a water softener. James actually washes amazingly well under these circumstances and especially if I put in a few drops of rinse agent after the full cycle and then give 2 more rinses. It washes much better than I was lead to believe it would - Thanks for asking. Glad you enjoyed the videos . Lawrence.

James is pleased.

James took some time out from fraternizing with the mobile maid to tell you all how pleased he is that you appreciate him. He says soon he will do another video shoot to demonstrate his sweep flow action and to show how well he actually washes. James also says he thinks the other James on YouTube is not working properly, but he will be happy to operate correctly for you all. And he thanks you again for watching.

Great Videos Bob!
Your James is in very good shape.
Did all of the James Dishwashers have the gold trim?

trim

I have never seen another James in person other than my own. The webmaster has an early 50s model which looks completely different - no gold trim - and dishwasher crazy has one which was once part of a universal gas range and looks like it has a car fender bolted to one end. So I guess the quick answer is no they sure don't . As far as I know the one I have is the only one so far known to exist of that exact model. I just love the machine and hope to keep it as long as I live.

Wow, that is really outstanding seeing the detergent dispenser in action! The machine itself looks beautiful, too. I would LOVE to get my paws on one of these dishwashers one day - I can't ever recall seeing any Canadian advertising for the James, though...
BTW the Mobile Maid beside the James has a turquoise cousin in Ogden! LOL
Thanks for posting the videos, Bob!!
