I turned down a similar washer AND dryer, both working,in white, about a week ago at a yard sale. Could have got both, and the stand, for $40.00 or so.

This would be a perfect starter for me - since its small!

I emailed her and its a 1972 model and has a recirc.lint filter which I love - I don't mind going up for a ride - just as long as I'm not taken for one! I'll just have to see since I don't have a truck. I'll keep you posted!

Matt

compact

One of these is saving my butt while the 78 LK is down. I wonder if it's a baby Penta Swirl or a straight vane agitator? Later ones had baby DD agitators. Higher line ones (there wre LK versions) had FS dispensers and 3 water levels. I see it has a REAL lid, mine has a "cheapie" plastic lid, even though it's the LK version. Surprisingly, it has the same 1/2 hp motor as a full-size machine.

Guys-
The spousal unit has issued an ultimatum. Toggle can't collect no mo'. And sneaking one in may not work. LOL

Maybe I should tell the other half "no mo' CD or DVDs." But difficult to enforce. Those fit in a drawer.

Matthew-
I'd be happy to join you on the ride. Sadly my little Saturn wont fit this lovely toy, or i'd offer.

P.S. If you need a 20" wide gas stove for your new place, I have one here with your name on it. Who knows it may help you fit in a washer or two..

And the stove is available to anyone who wants it.....FREE
Welbilt. Gas 20" wide. White. Broiler in lower drawer. Clean. Has pilot lights, completley non-electric. Great for blackouts and convertible to propane. Put it next to your BBQ, even.

*WOW*

Why did they ever stop this model to make one with a tiny tub?

Seeing what I can do

I emailed her she sent some pics - its a Straight Vane agitator and looks to be BOL unless they all had no options on them - I mean there is no water level knob or temp either - probably faucet controlled. I'll let you know when i hear from her!

The machine is a one level fill washer. The water temperature is control by the water faucet with three cycles and two speed with agit fill cooldown on the permanent press cycle. BOL it may be but it can wash upto 12lbs of laundry with that straight vane agitator.
Have fun and replace the agitator with a Super-Roto-Swirl*.

Good luck Matt!! Since you're living in a Manhattan studio, restore it and use it by the sink! It might come in handy...at least it has a 12 lb. tub!!

Interesting! I didn't know portables of that vintage had a full-size capacity.

Does anyone know if the current line of Sears compact/portable washers are Whirlpool made or are they made by another company

Hi Guys,

I have a 68' Whirpool portable washer that you have to lower the feet down with a lever on the back. At the present time it does not have wheels but everything else is there. It has the standard capacity tub with a Super Surgilator and chromed cap. It also has the Magic Mix brush type filter. The unit has 3 water levels and 4 or 5 temps., 2 speed, 3 cycle with Super Wash. Has a chrome grab bar on the front. It runs fine except there is a loud clunk when it engages for spin. I have used it many times but would like to restore it when I have time.

standard size tub

I've never seen one that size with a standard size tub. It wouldn't fit in that tiny cabinet. My 72 LK portable has a small tub. What you got with the LK was 3 water levels, and 4 cycles (Regular, Permanent Press, Delicate, Pre-wash) and it's 2 speed. It's set up to be portable only, but there was a conversion kit. If I lived in an aprtment, you can better believe I'd have a set of these. Don't like dealing with laundry rooms or laundramats

capacity

"Interesting! I didn't know portables of that vintage had a full-size capacity."

It doesn't, I think people are thinking of the 24" model with the portability kit on it like Calypso Bruce has.

'Working'

Since I only live about 20 minutes from Newington, I emailed the seller and asked if the washer was in 'working' condition. She emailed me back and stated that she did not know if the washer worked, but, would get back to me.

Actually, it does...

Yes, the one listed is a portable machine with a 12 lb. standard-capacity tub, and even though it comes with the straight-vane, a Surgilator or Super Roto-Swirl can also be used. Larry, I'm posting a picture of yours so everyone can see.

Ok all of you guys are on call now. Pensacola FL will not do for the compact. TOO FAR!

But I could afford to have it shipped.

Toggle, you are a mess!

standard capacity

Now that I lookk at it again, it IS different from my '72 LEK portable. Mine does NOT have the D- shaped opening or a snubber and the filtering is at the 2 o'clock position and is a Bed Of Nails design

Austin: Is that white portable in the pic yours? If so, what are the dimensions? inc. height TKS.

Steve,

The picture Austin posted is mine, I have that in my small collection of automatics.

Austin, thanks for posting that picture for me, I'm having a problem accessing my yahoo account.
