Parting out a 1-18.... what should I keep? |

 Hello all! I picked up a '74 - '75? Frigidaire 1-18 (below) I'm going to be dismantling for parts this weekend and I'd like to know: what parts should I keep for myself? I have a 1973 1-18 that scavenging the parts for. The washer does seem to work OK, but when it spins, it makes more noise this it should and it takes a much longer then normal time to get up to speed. Also and the end of the spin when the motor turns off, it takes FOR-EVER to coast down, like the Westinghouse top load washers of the time. I'm mainly after the tub ring seal, but I suppose it would be wise to grab the bellows, agitator, motor, water pump and.......what else would you suggest??? Yes I know I should save it, but I just simply DON'T have the room and need to make some space. I sorry but I can't save them all. Kevin

i put mine back together in july
let me think here.
i would keep the motor, both bellows, pump, timer, agitator, transmission as a whole, main tub seal if it's still good. although new one's are still available. that plastic sump that bolts to the outer tub and drains into the pump i would hang onto. mine cracked but i was able to repair it. still these probably aren't around anymore. that flange that bolts to the bottom of the outer tub and holds the main tub seal i would definately keep. personally i think i would hang onto everything but the cabinet and outer tub. but that's just me!!! | ||

I can't see parting out this machine (or any vintage machine) over a spin bearing and some brake work. There's gotta be some member on the west coast that would love to have this machine in its entirety, warts and all. Pulsating Frigidaire washers are a rare commodity for the west coast as they're almost impossible to find out here.
Just my opinion though. | ||
