There were some foam pieces. I believe insulation thrown inside. Otherwise this baby was so clean! |

Thanks Terry! My mom really likes the dishwasher, and since ours is showing signs of rust she may want to replace it. However that depends on how soon we are moving. It may be by the end of october. |

That just might be an unusual KDI-21 with indicator lights located where most of them have a control knob. The white float and detergent dispensers could be an indication of the 22 series but the panel looks like a 20 or 21. We installed a KDI-21 with the control knob at our other house. It performed problem-free for the 18 years we were there.
Having just seen a pristine KDS-21 yesterday that fellow member Nate (roto204) scored, I know those machines have more than three indicator lights on the left. Maybe an expert will post something here to advise. Regardless, it would be well worth grabbing if it's still there. |

That dishwasher is a 21 or greater. That's when they dropped the classic design, because the Hobart division of home dishwashers was bought by "Whirlpuddle". I can't see the sump clearly, but the heating element is in the wrong place. Hobart didn't do this.
Also the handles on the cutlery basket are shaped differently than the older ones. It musts be a "Surperba", but the buttons are arranged strangely. This is probably not a bad dishwasher but after W/P got a hold of them, they started to go downhill. The government started putting restrictions on the manufacturers, and everybody wanted everything for a song, so they sent production to other countries to be built and our jobs and quality went with them. Landfills full of junk appliances. How nice. Anyway, you have to look for traces of water leaks under the machine, and around the motor and slinger. If it has a motor shaft seal leak, the slinger would have thrown water around under the tub in a circular pattern. It could also have a door gasket leak or an internal leak inside the door, water valve malfunction, clog in hose, damaged or jammed impeller, or an electrical problem. It could be something easy or more complicated. If it's complicated, a service manual comes in handy. It's a learning process. You have to decide if you want to tackle it. Look around - find out how many parts are available for that model. The tines on the bottom rack are bent in different directions. Look for rust spots on the racks. It gets under the vinyl and corrodes underneath it. It can be repaired with a drimmel tool and the carbon steal brush. Then a couple of coats of JB Weld painted around the polished steal with a short wide stiff artists brush works (a tedious process). Sometimes new bottom racks can be had for around a hundred dollars, if you want to pay the money. Top racks are more expensive. Personally, I wouldn't do it on any thing less than a KDS-20 through 18. Maybe a 17 or 16. Haven't worked on anything other than a 20. Just my opinion. Others may feel differently. |

did either of you happen to examine the Tag dryer or the Kitchenaid dishwasher? If so what did you think of them? |

Oh man, I would love to play around with a KDS-20, but I'm really out of space.......
*sssssssiiiiiiigggggghhhhh* Let me see what I can do about space..... Thanks for the generous offer! I'd love to have a nice, but "used" Kitchenaid as a daily driver. My KDS-19 (thanks RCD!) is so darn minty, that I literally tip toe around it anytime I even get near the machine. I get paranoid about minty porcelain and racks being chipped if anyone but me even opens the door. Yes, I know, I'm weird...... |

OK Dan, shoot me an e-mail when you've got room and we'll make arrangements. And trust me, I'll give you a nudge if I don't hear from you!
Remember, this is the one that doesn't want to drain, but it's not the drain solenoid at fault. Experts here have advised it's probably something simple. It's all there, and in nice shape. I'll get pix of it to you if you like. Ralph |

I passed up a Dial-a-Matic at Salvation Army recently. Interestingly, the Constellation that was there next to it disappeared first.
They were both well-used and without attachments, in the beige/orange two tone scheme. I'm not a vacuum collector so unless I know somebody is looking for a particular item, I pass it by. |
