Well no surprise really,
I am out in Plymouth get a "ARE YOU THE GUY LOOKING FOR keeeeMATIC WASHING MACHINES" call yes in I am , blah blah blah many words later, I am driving up to London (Edgware), full of stinking cold /flu, no preparation just a tank full of fuel and my vague memories of where Edgware is in London. oh yes the purity and piety of Hoover to have fitted a "Save the Planet" button all those years ago makes one want to cry...........yerr meanwhile in the real world, I dont actually know Rich if this was the first Hoover with a half load option as the A3060 brother to this machine did not have one.
Anyway dragged me ded carcass around the garage and did a test wash, few jobs to do without fail: Door boot leaking Pump needs replacing Suspension apart from those important jobs it works a treat, the motor is very sweet sounding, the soap draw needs removing and cleaning out (not an easy job on these early models) I have taken some more fots and done a very poor quality vid for now in which you can hear the pump knocking when it has no water flowing through it. Right here we go: Arse shot as you can see it is very clean underneath just dust and cobwebbs.....no real rust issues. |

Hi Gary
Hope your better btw. Great condition the keymatic is in. Was thinking to myself a few months back looking at chestermikes and Hoover was deffo ahead of its time with styling cos your machine wouldnt look out of place in most new kitchens (mho before is start a war lol) Cant beleive they still had the original paperwork for the machine. Love looking through them and getting to know how to work the machine properly, not like new ones now, 2 bits of paper sayin, theres the drum, put washing in, press button ha ha congrats again Gary :o) |

Type in Keyplates and there are quite a lot of posts from members about these marvelous machines,,,heres a selection!!!
They where marketed as being able to quickly update your machine by buying a new keyplate....not so as all subsequent machines generally had their reader programmers updated and so the program slots where all different....even for the same programme!!! |

Hello all
did a few jobs on the machine yesterday (suspension and door rubber)........the inside of the tub is covered in limescale, i forgot London is a hard water area, so i will try and de-scale the machine at some point. I still need to change the pump. I cobbled a slightly better qaulity vid yesterday of a complete wash (heavily edited down though) it is in two stages first link is here. what a great site you run, in my job over the years i have seen all sorts of great retro furnishings, electrical etc......christ if i had a wharehouse i could fill it easily. It is great to see all this kind of gear for a multitude of reasons. So thanks for showing us your site. MIKE WOT THE FAK AR YOO ONABART, SCARSE AINT NUFFIN LIKE COKNEE YOU PLONKAH! ROB Thanks for your comments, I must seem a bit dull only collecting Hoovers but for me out of the mainstream brit manufacturers they were to me the most competant designs and they never cease to impress me (when they are working) with their build qaulity and clever design (no 11 second flash in the pan motors here :-).....) Hi Louis
Well done on attaining the two machines you have. The main problem with suspension on this machines are the large rubber bushes that the tub sits on, over the years they compress and go out of shape and because of this you get whats known as "twisted drum" wherebye the tub wont sit squarely because of the rubber bushes, there are other components in the suspension that wear aswell and will affect its ability to work properly, so that is why there is a complete kit with all parts required other than some moderately thick grease. The suspension kits are available here, and should be available in any country that sold earlier type Hoover washing machines. I have enclosed a link to a place here that has them for sale and will ship abroad. Fitting is not that difficult just a bit fiddly, all you need tools wise is a 1/2" or 13mm ring spanner to undo the top nut on the suspension rod, and a good pair of mole grips to grip the very bottom of the suspension rod whilst doing this. I normally turn the machines upside down to do this job as it easier to get at the parts. In the meantime if you can get a bright torch and the back off one of the machines you will be able to see the 1/2" nut that needs to be undone etc, this will just help you familiarise your self with the parts involved. If you get a kit or want more help i can scan in some more information from a service book for you, there are few more things you need to know, like the suspension spring under the soap draw is shorter than the other spring, also the white plastic bush on the soap draw side has a metal retaining thingy on it whilst the other one doesnt. Morning Louis, yes that Hoover bug gets to us all in the end, even diehard Servis fans!! did you have the 1100 models over there??
Thats a good tip in lieu of no parts, does it hold the drum much tighter in place then?? am just thinking does it cause more vibration through the cabinet with a heavy load?? We should have an area set up on here for repair hints n tips etc... have you had any Keymatics through your hands at all over the years?? |

What an excellent picture Paul!..........kin ell i have no talent at all, that pic is good enough for an advert.
Whats a 3090 like? and the compact dryer? Jobs well it could do with a bit more cleaning and as the end of the original rubber hose had been removed i found another rubber hose end today and have joined it to the original hose with a back-to-back connector, providing the glue holds i will re-fit it to the machine |

Hi
A common cause for these machines not spinning is the water pressure bottle on the back of the tub being partially blocked, you will have take this off completely and clear it out. It is not a difficult job but be careful removing the bottle from the rubber tube it is attached to as it can break. I have attached a picture of the pressure bottle I am talking about |
