Well, you may have read about the famous Beltsville warehouse of John's (Combo52); on October 9th and 10th, a wash-in and gathering of collectors was held! This is just a small part of the incredible and wonderful collection there!

What an amazing place! I would be in absolute heaven!

It cant be any more like a real store from the 60s. Look at all those candy like machines! All set up like a display in a big department store!

And vacuums to go right along with it!

It is so good to see everyone having such a good time, and to see pictures of the Warehouse. Congratulations John on a fine job! Thanks to all of you who have contributed pictures so far, and for those pictures yet to be added.

Paul, That Kenmore 600 Dishwasher [Post# 468469 Reply #6] looks itentical to the machine I had when I was in High School (1970). The inside and the control lever in front are exact. Here is a scanned image of the front cover of the Operating Instructions guide that came with my machine back then.

What a weekend!

Special thanks to everyone! Without exception, each in the group was fun and kind and charming!

It was amazing to see good long-time friends, to meet the real people behind the screen-names, and to connect with so many well-known AW peronalites! So many new and wonderful people as well.

I wanted to personally thank our hosts John & Smilty and Jeff & Cal for opening up their workspaces and their homes to all of us with open arms. This too goes for John (our other host) and everyone who had a hand (visibly and invisibly) in making this event R-O-C-K! Special regards to Mike and his crew in the kitchen who tirelessly and without complaint catered---well--how does one say this--[just say it MONA!]- their @$$e$ off! The tremendous time and effort and expense involved are really not conceivable until one sees the incredible spread of food and drink. We ate and drank like que---- er kings!

And you there... PSSSST... Terry L. and Gary W who quietly put on their aprons and best heels and were scrubbing and fixing and organizing in the kitchens I saw you! THANK YOU for all your did to serve us. Now I know I have missed acknowledging so many who did so much in so many ways, but you are all appreciated. Ever last damned one of youz, ok? LOL

I really dont know what to say but that I am still on a high at the amazing energy there. I think all of us wish we were able to converse more with each and every AW memeber in attendace and feel like we didn't pay enough attention to everyone!

I'm rambling (ya what else is new! LOL) But again WOO-HOO to a great time. And, of course, to great people.

And to my new buddy who delivered a washer to my door such that it was home before I was.. AFERIM! No one beats you guys NO ONE!

A group of us went to DC on Saturday, to view some fabulous exhibits at the National Building Museum... outside, they had cool workshops going for kids -- how things are built. Very hands-on. Here they're demonstrating how to build a brick wall. Nice to see tax-dollars at work. :-)

! Nice stang!

Love the new mustang you guys rented! Fab car. My dad has a 2007 in black. Really a gorgeous car for being new in my opinion. I got to take it for a spin in the parking lot. 330 horsepower, and a lot of torque. He added GT500 tires and rims, therefor they are very wide, so it grips better than a sanitaire on carpet.

Dont think I will be taking it on the street yet! Its a stick so I would get a bit carried away with it!
Im sure you had fun with it. :D

Sweet and Sweeter

Never before has one bench held so much goodness and flows from the hearts of Terry and Paul. Its amazing how many bonds of friendship have spread their tentacles around the globe all because of Robert, his hard work and generosity. Thank you all for the pictures. Its a bit like seeing a glimpse of heaven to be in the warehouse. Combo is perhaps are most expert repair authority and its fun to see the spring board from whence it all comes. I am glad so many of you had an opportunity to go and are so kind to spend the time to load and upload photos for all of us to share. You're right about DC Greg. It would take days just to see the entire Smithsonian even if you only gave a 5 second pause at each display. The Smithsonian is only a drop in the bucket of the history in each building and it's place in forging the basis of democracy.

The combo wall!

revvinkevin's profile picture

Every machine you can see along the back wall in photo is a COMBO washer / dryer (Um, I guess that's why John's screen name is COMBO52!).

They are from the left, Whirlpool, Speed Queen, 4 Kenmore / Lady Kenmore combo's including a large 33" model (like the one I have), A Westinghouse, 2 Bendix' and the one on the far side of the one lit up at the end is another Lady Kenmore Combo!

I counted 6 or 7 OTHER combos around the warehouse including an early 70's (?) GE combo, a beautiful Philco-Bendix combo and an ultra rare Easy Combo too!

I can tell from the Pictures posted you all had a good time and seem like a great group of people. I can not believe all the machines out there from when I was a child even though the Kenmores from late 60's and early 70's are close to my heart. Hope to meet up with some of you in the future at some event.

Aside from the Harvest Gold Kitchenaid KDA-5 portable that was being used (repeatedly) to wash all the dishes (NO paper plates OR plastic utensils being used here, thank you very much!!).... here you can see the stainless steel tub Kitchenaid KDS 21(?), the NEVER USED 1965 Lady Kenmore 230 volt model, A Jennair (Maytag) reverse rack and finally an early 50's Hotpoint dishwasher at the end.

ALSO, create and bake your own personal pizza with numerous toppings to choose from! What a great idea!

Captain Wonderful

Kevin, Kevin, thank you for the great pictures and videos. I appreciate it takes time to download and edit posts for the rest of us but it makes the experience come to life. The microphone picks up the music in the background, the voice of each machine and of course the visiting. A veritable cacophany of sound.

Looks like a great time was had by all. That is the most impressive, beautiful collection, truly one of a kind anywhere. I am such a novice, just looking for my first rebuild and here is an entire warehouse full. I guess you have to start somewhere. Would love to be a part of the next "wash-in"

Did I see a Norge Time Line set anywhere in the bunch? That would be my ultimate favorite, along with a Bendix Economat, which I did see there.

Thank you to John E for all that hard, hard work you did, to John F for putting all those extra appliance hours after working with them all week long.

Thanks to Smitty for all those intimate squeezes! YEHAW!

Thanks to Jason for his ebullient self and Artey loved meeting Cindy!! (Even though John wasn't happy about the p-mail!)
Customer #59 was well serviced.

Thanks to Cal & Jeff for just being THEM! Hallalujah I am lucky to have them in my life!

Thanks to Greg for ordering the "The Table for One" and putting my bartending skills to their limit "shake/shake!" And yes there is LARD in YOUR future!

Terry I felt we were standing shoulder to shoulder together all week long, ready for the crowd!

Thanks to Gary for educating me in the ways of the Spin Dryer, Can't wait this weekend to try her out! And its always nice to hash over life with you!

Don, it was great to catch up again and thank you for showing me the "ways" of the i-Cult!!!

As always I am glad to have spent time with our hoarse yet ebullient Webmaster (my favorite competitor-collector and nemisis) Artey wants to come to Minnie Robert!
And as for Hooverwheelaway with the extra long handle well, all I can say is "nice fur!"

And lastly Thanks to everyone who took the time, effort and expense to attend this Wash IN.

I think it's clear the now the whole club would like to support and see another International event in the future.

My arms are starting to recover from all the Margaritas that went off the Bar all week long!

This looks like the perfect place to spend a day or 2, until I found this site about a year ago I thought all my life (56 Now) that I was the only one with a Washer / Vacuum and gadget addiction I just wish my UK home was a bit bigger. I can see from the pics everyone had a fantastic time, O well its time to get my SEBO out and clean the place, with 2 dogs it’s a daily task.

Speed Queen twin tub - coppertone

Great little machine! Love mine. Notice this one has a 3rd dial (unlike mine), which leads me to believe it has a water heater like the U.K. versions --- is that the case?

BTW - I'm so jealous I couldn't make it - looks like a fantastic time was had by all - and great hosts!

SQ TWIN TUB WASHER

This one does not have a water heater, I wish it did. We saw very few washers of any kind in the US with water heaters built in. The three knobs on the washer control from L TO R washer drain pump, washer agitation timer, and on off switch for the spinner.

Speed Queen Controls

Brad, I took a few pics while I had the little brownie apart, here is a photo of the knobs. This is a 1-speed model and an earlier one at that, so my guess is your model omits the spinner knob and integrates the spin pump with the spinner lid switch. Your machine should have the wash drain knob and the timer knob next to it. This machine has a 3rd knob for the spin pump and spinner. When you turn it on, the spinner pump starts running and it allows the spinner to start. With it off, no power goes to either. It's a strange setup.

Here's the pic:

Like the Supertwin

vacbear58's profile picture
As far as I know the Servis Supertwin (on which this machien is based) had a similar arrangement up until the last model where the left and centre buttons were combined.

On ours, with heater, the right hand knob positions were:
Off, Spin, Spin + Heat, Heat. I presume that the "spin" control was to allow for a soak rinse without lifting the lid - ChesterMike will be the authority on that point :)

While the later SQ models had a two speed motor, ours had an additional part to put over the agitaor for more vigorous washing.

I kind of giggle that after we all come-out about the FIRST "big thing" many of us have in common, we are still generally FLOORED that we get to come-out again. It all happens when we realize there is a community for THIS "nasty little affliction" too!

Perhaps it's all about attractions to big bad powerful white black, brown and yellow agitators!

LOL
