I'll just start off by saying I don't think I would ever dare host a vacuum party so I can only imagine what must have been going through Greg's and Lynn's minds when they decided to host several unknowns over the weekend.

I wanted to post a few pictures aside from the others because it really hits on the diversity of collecting that some of us do. Of course we ALL enjoyed eating and who wouldn't with Kelly and Greg's expertize in the kitchen. But most of these guys like their vacuums on top of washers! Check out some of these cool vacuums that Kelly and Greg displayed.

We didn't have near enough time for these I can assure you all.

Greg, show us your stuff!!!

I'm confused now...

Isn't Pdub a washer collector? What in the world is she doing with this old Hoover??? Oh boy...

Ok so I got in on the action a little bit...

jons1077's profile picture
Strictly holding one for a photo op here but my it felt so natural. In return for Greg's hospitality I offered him an old Hoover that was in our house when we bought it. He graciously accepted. Actually...it was more like "OK!!! I WANT IT!!! I'LL TAKE IT!!!" as soon as he laid eyes on it.

A boy and his toys. :-)

Dinner discussions...

So we were having the most wonderful and intimate dinner. Wine, risotto to die for, the best steak ever, and asparagus that melted in your mouth...

The Mascot

After meeting Tony and Jon in Tucson I already knew what great people they are. I was really excited to hear they would join us and trust me I was not disappointed. The number of combined life stories, experiences and all the locations they take us through weaves a tantalizing tapestry at an event like this. Adolph the 4 legged floor vac was adorable and he really was an ice breaker reminding us all to laugh and play. Sadly he wasn't able to teach me the trick of how play your own violin. You can't imagine how pristine and serene Greg and Lynn's house is on a daily basis and for 48 hours we created pure pandamonium and they simply encouraged us to continue. All I can say is when, were and how soon can we do this again.

Why was Patrick looking at me that way?

jons1077's profile picture
And why was I laughing? Because it turns out he was rather upset at me for a couple of reasons. No really...

It wasn't enough that my one and only Tony had to bring up the sore subject of a DE806 dryer in harvest gold that I passed up without realizing it was the exact match to Patrick's A806 washer...I sort of brought up the fact that I had to been to quite a few estate sales and passed up quite a few variations of percolators. "Don't you have my number?" Patrick asked. Needless to say the next time I spot any cool coffee percolators I will be hitting speed dial. Luckily Patrick already has a Corning Ware model and she's a beaut!

Vacuums, percolators...what next?

jons1077's profile picture
Well, this was the true kicker for me. Years ago (yes, I've been in this club for years now even though I'm still a newbie by most standards I assume) I posted a few photos of another collection I have and only got maybe a response of two. Par for the course these days but I thought "What the heck?", I'll pack a few in the car for this weekend just to see what the folks think.

Turns out this little host of ours has quite a similar interest and thus blossomed some very exciting moments for all of us.

I brought 4 little sprinklers...

jons1077's profile picture
one of which Greg's hugging as if he found his long lost best friend from another lifetime. :-)

I had no idea Greg had over 50 sprinklers of his own!!! Way to show me up sister! I'm so glad we share this interest as well as Brun I understand? Looks like we'll need to include these in future get togethers during the summer months. Nice grilling, cold drink on the patio, and the sounds of vintage sprinklers. What could be better?

Kelly,

jons1077's profile picture
I can only imagine what was so funny in this photo but maybe it was the satisfaction of time well spent. Every one of us emitted a smile much like Kelly's and for various reasons I'm sure.

It feels good to know that at least someone near where I live now doors will remain open for me and friendships will persist. It's people like the ones in these photos that keep me coming to this club day after day.

Greg, the next one is on me and I want all of you guys to be here. Adolf won't take no for an answer.

Jon

My first Hoover!

pdub's profile picture
Well Jon, guess I caught the vacuum bug cause that l'il ole Hoover made it home with me. A big thanks to Greg (luxflairguy) for that!

I've only seen this model in pictures and never dreamed I would have one in my possession. It's a model 800 with 2 speeds and a light.

Patrick! The Hoover looks right at home beside the switchboard. You deserve such a fun toy and I'm glad I could provide it for you. Enjoy "Hoovering" your rugs! Greg

That's the only one I've ever seen that looked close to mine. Mine has the black bag and white bumper trim. Nice machine!

I see one of my favorite hoovers!!!

Congrats! Its an excellent machine. I loved mine. Wish I didn't sell it. Mine had a brown bumper as well. But it still looked ok.

Jack, aka dysonanimal, has a fantastic example of an original one with the special bag. He finds it the most beautiful vacuum ever built! (Personally I like the 925 model the best, its the same design except with wings on each side of the badge)

Here is the one I had.

These hoovers are hands down the best design. Ever!

I love the wording...

on the bag that say's "Empty After Each Cleaning".

Do they make any reproductions of bags that fit this machine?

Thanks for all the comments.

Post# 468858 , Reply# 18   10/12/2010 at 19:27 (4,943 days old) by washernoob ()

Unfortunately hoover hasn't made a bag that would work on this machine for probably 30 or more years.

Grab some when you find one!

If you EVER see a black bag with the orange, gold, yellow, white, or red lettering on it, that says "the hoover" (usually with patents)....
GRAB IT! They are becoming quite extremely rare. If you ever see them on ebay, you'll notice some auctions hitting $400 or more!

Trust me you got quite lucky just for having the machine itself! The 800 is becoming increasingly harder to find. Right now its at "quite uncommon" stage. Soon it will be "rare" for sure! Thats not in its original condition too.

Any hoover in this body style thats got an original bag is rare. Plain and simple rarity! Never pass one up for sure!

Nice find for sure. You will love it! These babies are music to my ears!

Thanks for all the great information. I didn't know how rare this vacuum was except for the fact that I had never seen one in person. I appreciate all the info on the bags too and if I come across a stash of them you'll be the first to know!

The old hoovers....

This Model that you say is so rare, I have seen in this city MANY TIMES at 2nd hand stores and salvation army type places...I HAD NO IDEA, they were such great machines.. I have a constellation canister Hoover in Mom's attic, it floats with air from the bottom.... 1959 Pink and beige, and I have the Hoover upright, Metal head and light, sky blue and parchment color, 1970.....and my mother has the 1986 version of the Liberty Kirby in Gold (was gold) it became ugly with age and she had it plated in nickel for durability, I think it was nickel....they removed the gold Plating, said it looked like it belonged to "Liberace"...I saw it in a Kirby Sales store window on my way to the bank one day, and had to have it for HER, this was Nov. 1986>>>In Wheeling...I'll def. look for those rare bags, and the sweeper that goes along with that UNIT. Please REMEMBER>>> I am a new, and ecstatic Member for this Wonderful World of Appliances....BIG & small, AGAIN, Thank you ROBERT, for this WEBSITE>>>>Harold in Wheeling, WV

!!!!! COOL!

Any hoover with a headlight in the raised motor "coffee" can style is definitely worth getting.

The non headlight models are not quite as rare (with some exceptions) but still great machines. The headlamp ones were just later ones, so more powerful motors.

The gold kirby was a promotional model. Whichever dealer sold the most kirbys in a year or month was awarded one.

I was literally just having a conversation with a friend who has just about all kirby models (and 2 S&F sanitation systems) who was looking for the goldy ones. A local store has EVERY gold model ever produced. (multiples of some) Really cool weird vacuums.

Definitely a liberace vacuum!

Tip the Boat Over

Paul, imagine the energy of the two of us in the same place at the same time. You can bet it would cause the world to rock on it's axis. All that food, the appliances and laughter. We must make it happen. I've been very bad lately rebuying a lot of the smalls I sold before moving away 10 years ago. If there's an earthquake here you'll find me under a pile of old mixers speared with shards of mixer bowl.
The moments at Greg and Lynn's flew by far too quickly. As testimony to our great company we seldom got far from each other and spent precious little time doing anything but visiting and eating.

Since Brandon's already shared my photo of my Jubilee Model 800, here's a few of my 'coffee can' Hoovers, including the 925 and 800, on display at the gallery earlier this year. They're among my favourite machines of all time - throughout the production of each model, Hoover's engineering department subjected samples to over 100 years' worth of simulated abuse in their test labs. This is why they're all still going strong today!

There it is!!!!

The left most hoover in full view! The 925!!! most beautiful vacuum cleaner ever made!!! Probably one of the rarest of the later coffee can hoovers too.

I have the 1926 model 700, which is the the farthest one on the left with the curved handle. I have painted the handle of mine. Now its time to buff it to a new kirby shine! The bag isn't original, but its a genuine hoover replacement, with the bag spreader design.
Also have the '29 model 575, not as nice, and not a shiny model like the 700. And of course the 1919 model 102. Just a good ol oldy model. Not so pretty. But hey it runs, and is very very quiet.

Just amazing machines.
