I'm gonna say 1959 or 1960. Do you have a model #?

Chris, you find the BEST toys!

Nice find...you definitely can't beat free, even if it's just good for parts!!

I like the control panel...a blend of old and new (50's panel with 60's-style knobs). What kind of Surgilator does this have?

Love those old Whirly's.

Hi Chris, You sure do find the neatest things!! I am also going to say mid to late 50's. Looks like a deluxe machine with a lighted console, at least I am hoping it has that. Have fun and continue to share those pictures with us as you work on her. Terry

What a beauty. That rust is nothing and I'm sure you'll
have her looking like new in no time. 1959 was a great year!

Family friends had a machine very similar to this, if not exactly it. I recall the five-temp selector with cut-out for rinse and variable water level. And a fluorescent light that had a bad starter or ballast or something, flickered/glowed on just one end.

quick spray

just 2 good coats of plastic spray..i know it will wear off again but thats what they make refills for ha ha..the agi was really in need of a good cleaning then it was just to rough so the spray sort of helps..this lady must have had a really hairy cat or dog..hair every where

guess im lucky.. i work for a nissan dealer so i can snatch up on all kinds of stuff..we have plastic spray that they use on used car engines to make them all shiny..thats all the can says is plastic spray..but im sure its some sort of poly..i used it on the tag agi and that was a good 2 years ago..it seems to hold up pretty good..but then again i only wash soft items like socks ect..am sure zippers ect would scratch a whole lot more..

Boy that Surgilator looks OOB!

These KenWhirls are getting scarce now , especially the water fall models!!
I am in the process of restoring a 1957 Kenmore for the collection. Can't wait to see my own water fall filter in action.

Nice pix Chris

i guess this will teach me to work in the garage with out having shoes on.. had the top proped up with a cut off 2x4 went to lift the top and the 2x4 fell out and right onto my foot..broke 2 toes..so anyway she looks great and everything works except she wont spin..her wig wag works and the slide bars move but no spin.. i have never had a pool apart but im guessing there must be a clutch or brake sruface in there that is pooped..what do i need to take apart and what parts do i need to start looking for???

When working on a Whirlpool BD I use a chain with hooks on the end to hold the top up. Hook one end on the frame corner and the other on the front top. It has to be long enough to open the top a little more than 90 degrees so it doesn't fall back down. Works for me.

Chris...I'm sorry...I shouldn't have teased you

..in a time of distress.

Friday night Instant Karma retaliated with a vengence at 3am! Some funky allergic reaction caused my stupid feet to painfully swell to twice their size, painful even to a gentle touch, and turning to an almost exact color match to your 1-18. The final result was to render me totally unable to walk.

I live in a 2 storey apartment, on the 2nd/3rd floors of the building! It took me 45 minutes to work my way dowstairs and outside.

I had called 911, and the EMS gent carried me like a baby to the ambulance. I was conveyed to the Ratzinger Radisson! To those not familiar with St. Louis, that's a local wag to St. Louis University Hospital aka SLUH, the reknowned teaching and healing Jesuit ministry of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis. Lesser known, is that the movie "Exorcist" was partly inspired by the role of a priest dispatched from this same facility eons ago to provide a "healing."

My Kirby's once again, showed versality. Vintage appliances are the best! Had I not had a few on each floor of the apartment to serve as canes I don't know what I would have done! I'm no porker, pretty skinny actually, but any of todays vacs would have snapped like toothpicks.

So go ahead and laugh, it's your right! I promise never to tease you about your tootsies again, nor use the Catholic Church as a prop. Yeah right, like I'm gonna keep that promise, LOL! But you have to admit, the karma is hilarious!

You've taken that appliance from beat up old derelict to sexy and beautiful! Can I be next? I promise I won't show my gratitude by breaking your toes!

Cheers,

John

So what

were you allergic to?

Post# 82759 , Reply# 39   9/11/2005 at 08:59 (6,795 days old) by jdinstl ()
The Jury is still out on that...

Good question Jaune -- the ER Doc's at SLUH are stumped on that one as much as you and I. They even ran a few additional tests, snagged a couple of other docs off service rounds to have a look. They'll be sending the test results to my GP maybe that will contain some clues.

Maybe I'm not allergic to anything -- it wouldn't be the first time Instant Karma bapped me in the head. Or in this case, cut me off at the knees....:)

John
