Hi all,

This is what I've been at during my break, securing a nice, dry, wooden shed at Gran's for my washer collection. I've plumbed it up to the nearest outdoor water tap on the farm and it has working taps at the sink (I found it lying around and assembled it here LOL) both give out a decent stream of COLD water, I don't have the luxury of HOT water but thankfully most if not all of my future collection will have heaters built in. It also features 4 sockets although only one machine can be heating at anytime and a drain. The use of rubber hose for the plumbing is genius as it provides an expandable infrastructure and it hardly leaks (any leaks that I've seen are tiny and they don't fall on the floor, instead they travel down the pipes and fall outside). The wooden construction of the shed is insulated and it is as warm as any of your garages if not warmer and as soon as you start working in here the heat is lovely. As you will see I have a small and mismatched collection and it will stay like this until I get collecting for real next year, the Hoover 1321A will be retired to the back of the shed and the Servis Spin Dryer will be returned to its rightful owner (Gran LOL). I have space for about 6 machines in here but as this is temporary storage until I move out I wouldn't say I'd reach the quota. All of the cleaning, tidying, installing, contructing and testing work was done by myself.

Here is the panorama (on the right is Great Gran's vintage sewing machine!)... Enjoy!

In my cupboard, I have Persil Handwash & Twin Tub (lovely), some hoses, wooden tongs and an instruction manual binder (the red thing).

The fully plumbed sink (mounted on two milk cans LOL).

A view of the plumbing. The first expansion to the system will be an additional hoze to fit to an automatic via Hozelock whenever that will be.

That's it, James.

Thank's Paul,

I forgot to mention that there are two sliding panels concealing the area under the sink, you can see the panels on the very left of the picture.

James.

Cool

Hi James.

Love your laundry shed, you got plenty of room for some vintage washers, maybe a hotpoint 1600.

Paul

Congratulations James on your hard work, you have the essentials now, and hopefully your machines will start to appear!!

Just make sure you always use a circuit breaker on the extension leads and connections and dont use the extension reel with the wire all coiled up inside, especially when using washers with heaters etc!!, the coiled wire will overheat pretty rapidly!!

Cheers, Mike

Hi all,

Thanks alot for the comments!

Paul: If only one could be found...

Mike: The socket that the reel is plugged into, comes directly of the RCD. The reel is completely un-coiled, fortunately reachining the handy position it is in.

James.

Hi James.

Echoing others comments, congrats on the newly created space!

Nicely organised and some space to grow into too, for when the machines start coming in - and they will given time.

Roll on the spring and summer for you, so you can tinker and repair in comfort. It can get VERY cold playing with washers in winter! Ask Alex (SuperElectronic) as he and Rob play with the 96702 a winter or two ago. It was rather chilly!

Paul

Well done James!

I can't get away with collecting washing machines - seems Citroen's and Sunbeam appliances is enough for my partner to bear....

....but to coin a phrase 'I love what you've done to the place'

Thanks for all the lovely comments guys, pity you lot aren't living alot closer so we could have a "shed warming party" LOL! It seems to be all going well now since I've found a rare-ish machine myself but I haven't got it yet. I'm keeping tight lipped about it too.

James.
