well here it is straight from columbus ohio! the vintage 1966 g.e. dishwasher that was advertised on craigs list last week that i saw here.

she's a beauty! and does indeed look "hardly used".

I hope you will mix up some epoxy and coat those scratches where the silverware basket passes over the door. It's a shame they did not put the piece of plastic there sooner. You are lucky it is not more scratched and rusted.
I hope you have fun with your new toy.

now for the scary part

rollermatic's profile picture
this one section of bottom tub makes me cringe! i know that these pastic coated tubs will rust out readily if water gets thru a break in the plastic coating! we had a g.e. and it started to rust really bad! the plastisol (or whatever it is called) kept peeling and peeling!

i'm afraid to put water in this one till i make sure this problem area is fixed and sealed!

Post# 476693 , Reply# 12   11/21/2010 at 17:21 (4,876 days old) by rollermatic (cincinnati)
anyone have a tip

rollermatic's profile picture
on what to use to coat this plastisol possible rip?

it could just be a rusty water spot, don't know yet, don't even have machine in house yet!

one of my other g.e. mobile maids has a pllastic lower drain pump. larry in parma said it was a replacement pump and the originals were metal.

axial pump?

nice find!and pretty clean too!
don't these have an axial pump with more of a propeller
instead of an impeller for the wash pump?
proper split phase motor too-much nicer than the later
horizontal shaft "shaded pole" motors..
BTW looks like 8-13-65 date stamp on that motor.
Trying to think of a good repair method for that rust "scab"
-possibly epoxy floor paint could be used?

side view

rollermatic's profile picture
showing fill cup apparatus.

the man said this machine was in his mom's house and she hardly ever used it. looks that way to me.

he also said house was built in 1966 and all appliances he sold were original so i guess it's a late 65 or 66 model. he had a wall oven, also g.e. that sold to a guy in north carolina.

all in all a great dishwasher and only 10 bucks! well he wanted 10, i gave 25 since he was nice.

and there is a bonus! i also came home with this!!!

getting this impeller off

rollermatic's profile picture
was a lot of work. i rigged a puller using wood and bolts to gently pull it off. hopefully this new machine won't be that much work. i may not even take pump apart now. owner said it doesn't leak.

Post# 476734 , Reply# 40   11/21/2010 at 18:46 (4,876 days old) by rollermatic (cincinnati)
from what i'm told these

impellers are no where to be found! thank God i was able to rebuild my top loader mobile maid with no impeller breakage. i have another mobile maid top loader i got in buffalo this past spring waiting for me to tackle it. it does leak!

Peter,

Be careful with all that black insulation on the dishwasher, especially if it's wearing in spots. Very likely asbestos.

And thank you for all the pictures. Exactly the model we had, your shot of the little escutcheon above the control dial rang a big bell as soon as I saw it. They changed it a little every year for about 10 years, but this basic model changed very little. Is there a knockout on the pump? If there is, you could easily fabricate your own Power Shower with spare parts.
Please let us know if it's noisy; now I'm curious.

Miami-Carey

Hey Pete, Miami-Carey was located not too far from us on Garver Rd. in Monroe, OH. Bought my sister an Avocado range hood at a warehouse sale they had there about 30 yrs. ago. Believe they were acquired by Broan-NuTone a few years ago. They were not connected to GE to the best of my knowledge. GE and Hotpoint always had their own line of hoods; don't know if they made them at their own factory or contracted them out.
