My December 11th wash-in was less of a wash-in, more of a Holiday Party

Due to a number of factors (time of year, the economy, etc), my wash-in wasn't as much of a wash-in as I was hoping for, BUT it was still a really good party! Of the 35 or so people in attendance, only 10 of them were "washer people", the others were good friends or other friends I was "coming out of the appliance closet" to (haha).

Since we are near Christmas, I decided my "gift" would be to cook dinner for everyone! So with two friends helping me, we made 4 trays of regular lasagna, 2 smaller trays of veggie lasagna, garlic bread & salad. My friend Tina made some incredible ginger cookies and lemon bars for dessert and everything turned out great!

Because I was so busy in the kitchen prepping, cooking and serving, I did not have a lot of time to visit, party or take many photos... but I did get a few.

So..... welcome to my home for the Holiday party / wash-in!

Kenmore 800

Wow! My parents had a Kenmore 800 and matching dryer (in avocado)until they traded them in for Maytags in 1987. The Maytags are still going strong.

I remember seeing a working display of this washer with my parents in the Sears store in Kokomo, Indiana. I was absolutely enthralled with the soap dispenser. It was the coolest thing. It was even cooler when it was delivered to our house and I could watch it in action in the comfort of my own home!

Great pics! Great memories.

Why do I have all these extra screws in my pocket!? I'm glad I could make the Hoover sing once again. For some reason that brings me great joy :) I had a great time and I was glad I could help out with the machines, it was a nice change of pace to get my hands into some Frigidaires, Westy's and WP machines. A wonderful host, a room full of washers and voila! It was great and I don't regret coming out at all!

I see an old friend there, GE Mike...HI MIKE!

You sure have a lot of ideal machines procured in a short time. The 55 Uni looks enticing next to the new KM. And that giant pink combo--HO HO HO, says Santa. What did your non-washer friends say about your coming out as a washer guy?

Thanks so much for the update on your party. I sure am glad you had such a good turnout. Coming out of the appliance closet isn't so bad. The non-Washer folks, almost always, are initially impressed with a spectacular collection and variety of machines such as yours. Thank you for sharing with them, as well as with us. Oh, and no need to apologize - I know from past experience, that when hosting one of these events, taking photos is easily forgotten.

kenmoreguy64's profile picture
The tree, the party, the machines - you outdid yourself!

The Coppertone Kenmore looks even better than it did here in Charlotte. That machine probably has set a record of sorts with how many AW.org members it graced from origin to ultimate destination. I know several members were involved in getting it collected in Boston, you and I got it from Boston to Charlotte, it lived here for some time, and in our northern Cal. plant for some time longer, and FINALLY it's now in So. Cal where it belongs. I am SOOOOO glad that this one was able to 'plug and play' for you without any attention from the doc.

Looks great Kevin - couldn't happen to a better guy!

I've probably said this before, but that 1970 Kenmore 800 looks like a kenmore 900 Steve 1-18 has. they were Lady "knock-offs" so to speak. And a very nice looking gathering. May not have been a wash-in after all, but a grand time was undoubtedly had by all.

Are you sure you didn't mistakenly get a 900, and not a 800? If not, What is the difference between the two? It looks very nice by the way. Looks like people had a good time at the wash-in. I use Plus (orange box) too! No pictures of that 1968 Whirlpool pair? Tim looks like he's having fun. How do you like that Clorox_2 powder?

Time for a little video...

revvinkevin's profile picture

Thank you everyone for you great comments!

Bob and Melvin: according to the model number, it's an 800 series, not a 900. We'll have to ask Gordon the exact differences between the 800's and 900's.... but I think the 900's are "Lady Kenmore". This one may as well be a Lady tho... it has the piano keys. control panel light, detergent dispenser, quiet pack, Veri-flex agitator, etc.

Andy: Yes I do have a "sea of green" don't I? 8 machines back to back... hmmm. LOL Actually I think I have almost all the colors now!

Gordon: THANKS! And Yes it was touched by a few members hands before I was actually able to lay hands on it myself... that's funny! It's really in incredible condition! The ONLY thing I did to clean it was wipe the years of dust from behind the timer knob... that was it!

ALR2903: I did have the combo plugged in to light up and tumble, but it was not connected to water, a gas line or a drain.

And now without further ado... here is a little video I put together to give you a little closer look at everything.

Very sorry I couldn't attend, as it looks like a great time was had by all. The new Kenmore 800 is fantastic, and looks very much like the '67 LK washer of the set my friend Glenna D. had.

In replys #34 & #35 with the Whirlpool "woody" set next to the Kenmore washer, it appears the Avocado color is slightly more yellow on the Whirlpools. Is this because of differences in year made, or did Sears spec a different shade for the Kenmores? Up till now I always thought Kenmore used the same colors as Whirlpool, but perhaps I was wrong.

A COLLECTION TO BE ENVIED INDEED!!!

You didn't miss a beat Kevin. ...Hosting this gathering with ease, the way you did woulda made Martha Stewart proud; LoL!

Good food, Great times mixed with a little Holiday cheer kinda makes you warm & sudsy all over. Or was it because it was around 70 degrees + ha ha!!

Were all those fluorescent lighted machines bouncing back off a solar panel in the sky?? Otherwise, surely you woulda blown a fuse (ducks and runs)!!?? ...

Oh yeah, You're very welcome for the SEARS ULTRA PLUS laundry detergent, PARTY DOWN!!! It's one of the few things left we (they) can put the "SEARS BEST" LABEL on anymore sadly.

Thanks again for a great time.

Ah yes, those precious TOL Whirlpools of yours, A stunning set. It looks like there is another difference between the washer and my 1966 model. It has a tub light! Mine does not. Thanks for the additional pictures and video. Did I see a Maytag Neptune lurking about? Did you ever get touch panel resolved with your Catalyst? Well Kevin after sorting out that Hoover 0515, I came home and did the same thing to the same machine in my kitchen. This 0515 is going to my mother as a Christmas gift, her Danby I bought her a couple of years ago dropped it's pump and parts are more expensive than the machine. I am giving the little trooper the royal treatment, new pump o-ring, coat of wax/touch-up and a NOS spinner basket that I've had laying around.

Hoover... The gift that keeps giving!

-Tim

Greg, Ben, Robert and everyone else, if you want to make the trip out West (So. Cal.), you are more then welcome and it would be great to meet you / see you again! I guess that means I'll be having another wash in then... LOL

Now I must give a warm welcome to new AW member, Warwick in Australia, WELCOME! We're glad you joined us! Warwick, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think he saw one of my YouTube videos which led him here to AW and he joined!

Yes... even I'm amazed by how my collection has grown since I brought my first (extra) washer home two years ago! Now I just have to get the washer projects moving! LOL

YAY! It's nice to hear you are going through the hoover and giving it to Mom! It's nice to know it will stay "in the family"!

What are you going to Danby? Are you going to make it a "neutral drain" machine? Or maybe turn it into the "frankin-Danby"?? LOL

Yay, congrats and Merry Christmas Mom!

Will be my base machine for some designs I have... We spoke about it, it will be a different beast when I finish it, trust me... It will be however be a while before I start it though, but it should be interesting.

I see an avocado fixation but I can over look that, we all have our faults..(ducks and runs) So great to see them all working, you have been busy!
And I forgot you have a Westy Streamliner too!
To my knowledge that makes 4 of us, Ross, Jeff, you and Me. Anyone else know the joys of Streamlining here that I'm forgetting???

But my Bendix wasn't running!!! tap!! tap! tap!!
Get on that mister!

I am going to convert her sister dryer to electric and remake the airflow to make it a better dryer. Shes waiting for her brother.

Must make it out there to see your fine collection in person. I'll make Greg & Terry drive!

I'm very curious about your Lasagna too, I know Rich has very good taste from personal experience with him, in person eeyyvveenn ( a little snagglepuss there)!!!

Merry Christmas Kevin!!

Kevin does all this flooding in California have anything to due with you draining 15 washers at the same time at your wash -in? LOL. But seriously I hope all our California members are safe and dry during this holiday season. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL from John.
