What a neat ad for the Easy wash-dry combo! When did they build this, or did they have someone else (Philco?) do the building and just market it under the Easy name? I do love the "tumb-l-ator" wash and "spinaway" rinse terminology, but then after having coined "spiralator" Easy's PR department couldn't get lazy on this one.

Were Easys sold mostly in the east and midwest? I don't remember seeing them in the southwest as a child, but maybe I just missed them.

Maybe John Combo will see this and answer.

He may even have an Easy combo in the warehouse. As far as I know Easy made all of their own washers, but I can't say for sure regarding the combinations.

In this area, Western New York, the Spindriers were everywhere, but when the automatics cornered the market, I saw only one Easy automatic up here in all those years.

With Arthur Godfrey in the ad, it must be the 50's ??.

Love the "push one button." Be great to see and hear an Easy Combo in motion.

EASY COMBOS

The easy combo was totally built by Easy and the machine was very unique in many many ways. It did have about the largest capacity of any machine that was only 27" wide. I do have one of these machines thanks to the generosity of John E of Saint Paul Mn. It is as far as I know the only one in existence [ I keep hoping to find another one in better condition ] but the one we have could be restored. Easy in fact invested so heavily in combos that they predicted that combos would out sell automatic washers by the early 1960s, the heavy investment in combos may be what put Easy out of business.

POD 12/21/10

Did anyone notice the male model holding a cigarette in this ad?

Just an observation.

Vintage Ads

'Forgot to mention, these older ads usually have detail at the bottom of the page mentioning the celebrity pictured.

In this case, it also mentions the Murry Mfg. Co.

(Sister company)? Or just contracted to make that machine with an "EASY" badge on it? Someone must know. ...

BTW, sometime back in the early '60's, No one got any rest at our house until we got an Easy T/L. I/we just had to have. I had been to a laundromat that had them, and yeah, we ended up getting one. somehow I don't remember where it was purchased, but I know it was in California, as we always lived here. I can still remember the scent of Tide detergent that came inside the washer!

Also I remember going to a laundromat that featured Apex machines that were a blast to watch Yeah!!

I guess they were the first to have a 4.0 cu ft domestic front loader.
