Hey , the performance series is the old serie from Maytag , just like the old Duets.
The Maxima is the new serie with Direct Drive motor , a new balance system with steel balls in a ring.
The new one seems to be alot better than the Performance.
If I'd buy one of those machines I would certainly buy the Maxima :D

The Maximan is the latest as Jibrazil points out above.
I have the Performance series and I do love them.

The difference between the two top of the line models in each series is negligible. Both pretty much have the same features, but the Maxima is about an inch or 1.5 inches shallower than the performance series, the maxima is made at Whirlpools factory in Ohio where as the Performance series was produced in germany; the maxima has a 5.0 cu. ft. tub vs. 4.5 cu ft. for the performance series and the maxima new direct drive technology. the Maxima also has a tub light asw ell as the latest styling comparable to other brands on the market as we as the same with the control layout and displays. I imagine the performance series will be phased out soon.
