Just wondering how old this dishwasher would be?
I remember working at Sears in the mid to late 90's and they would come through.
I recall the were very heavy. I was watching Roseanne and I think when they won the money and had the house redone, there was a black version in the kitchen. That show would have been late 80's early 90's. Was this the first style of KA that didn't have the big latch on the front?

I was all excited to hear the Hydro Sweep arm. It didn't sound much different from my Kenmore, just a bit more quiet. I was suprised there wasn't a third wash arm? The bottom rack looks very Maytag. The cutlery basket is very small.

I still like the look and style of the controls and the monitor status.

Hmm...  I think I first saw these in the mid 1990's when I was researching Dw to replace my KA from the 1960's.  Seem to think this might be one of the first or second series Whilrpool made because it has that whisper quiet label and the filter and cutlery basket looks similar to Whirlpool design... but not sure.  Maybe 1995 or 1996?  I am sure others on this site will know for sure.

I bought that exact same model back in January of 1999.  It is still in operation today at a neighbors house across the street.  It sure outlasted the POS Kenmore Elite I replaced it with by a mile.

KA DW

This was the first KA that was totally designed and built by WP. I think the only part of it that even resembled the earlier Hobart designs was the four way lower wash arm and the name. But all in all it was a very good machine except for the CHEAP AND NON DURABLE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS that so limit the potential 20-30 year life that modern machines could easily otherwise last.

I purchased this same machine in 1998. It was a great dishwasher! I have an Asko now and believe the Kitchen Aid's washing performance is just as good.... just not as quiet.

Trade Out

mrb627's profile picture

I traded mine out solely because it was white on white and I was changing all my appliances to black.  Ended up getting the Kenmore Elite because it was on sale and I was told essentially the same machine.  It died at about 2 months outside its warrantee.  At a repair cost at about 50 less than I paid for it to begin with.

I have a Miele Excella now.  It is a FINE machine.
