I stumbled on this set of a Kenmore washer and Inglis dryer in the vicinity of Sherbrooke - I was looking for a 'parts donor' dryer for my 66 Inglis Sterling that has been out of service since the spring and I thought 'well why not find a compatible newer version and cannibalize it for parts?"
This ad caught my eye and look at what is part of the deal - a washer I would guess is an early to mid 1970s Kenmore! I this is the best picture of it, but if anyone could ID it and let me know a bit more about it, that would be great!
Hear that groan of dispair? THAT was hubby... LOL

Paul -

The Canadian Kenmores have often been similar but not exact copies of U.S. Kenmores. I don't know why Sears went to the trouble of making them similar but not exact, but they did.

The metal lid handle ended its reign in the U.S. at the end of 1971. The knobs on that machine correspond to that time as well, especially the water level and temp knobs. The timer dial/knob enjoyed a couple more years of extensive use.

The washer looks like something unusual for the club, so I say "get it" if you can!!!!!

Good luck,

Gordon

Nice set!  I've seen Canadian built Kenmores before that had the instructions in English and French. Do those?

CANADIAN KENMORES

WP often used older designed parts on the canidain machines after they were no longer in use here in the states. The cabinets on these for example were last used on WP models around 1961, so these may be a little newer than we think.

The timer knob, and I think the auxilliary little knobs, are the same style as what is on Gansky1's 1972/1973 Kenmore that was shown at his wash in.

Definitely grab these if you can. These look to be the equivalents to both the US Kenmore 1970 600 and 500 series models.

It's interesting how the Inglis and Canadian Kenmore models always used the same cabinet, whereas the US Whirlpools and Kenmores had some differences until about 1983.

Well, predictably, hubby blew a fuse faster than Lisa Douglas plugging in a 3 with a 6... The bigger issue is transport. The appliances are not in Sherbrooke proper - they are in Cookshire, which is about 1 1/2 northeast of Ogden (Sherbrooke is a mere 30 or 35 minutes) - and the 'hauler' (aka the Focus wagon) is off the road for the winter. So, I have something of a challenge in getting these... BUT, I don't give up that easily and I am trying to hammer out a deal with a neighbor to borrow or rent a pickup truck. There is only one rental place in the vicinity of Ogden has only large trucks and I don't feel like shelling out $250 for a short trip... SIGH!
