When good things happen to those of us who are collecting vintage appliances in the quest to preserve them for future generations to appreciate, we have a desire to share those joys with our colleagues and friends.

On March 28, 2009 my local newspaper, the Peoria Journal Star, ran an article entitled “Antique lovers – Central Illinoisans share their vintage, irreplaceable appliances.”  Of the five appliances featured in the article, one was a 1955 ABC Wringer Washer regularly used by our own abcomatic (Gary Black).  Here is the section of that article from 2009 about Gary.

After that article ran in the paper, I contacted the author of the story, and shared my dishwasher collecting story with her.  At the time, there were no plans for a follow-up article.

Fast Forward to 2 days ago (Thursday January 27).  I received a phone call that morning from the same article author.  She was putting together a follow-up article, and in her archives had found my contact information.  We spoke for 25 minutes about my collecting, and my dreams.  A photographer from the paper was dispatched to my home to take pictures and to gather additional information about me and my appliance collection.

Today, Saturday, January 29th, the new article entitled "Domestic Workhorses"was published.  I have not been able to locate a link on the Journal Star's website to the complete story - just my picture and the caption.  So I have scanned the article from my copy of the newspaper.  Here it is, divided up in 4 sections.

Good for you, guys!  It's so great when we can "show off" our collections and be proud of our achievements, unafraid  of (jealous)  scorn, well done!

Who knows?  You may get a call or two with offers of more appliance-finds that a reader now sees there is interest in.

Thank you everyone.  They got a couple of the details wrong in the article about me, but I am not going to get all hung up on that - the general public, whom are the audience, will not know the difference.

Thanks Eddie.

Thanks Bob.

Tom:  Re:  55 WP pair - Do you mean the set next to the freezer in the other photo?  It is not mine, so I do not know anything about the pair.  Thanks.

Greg:  Exactly - I think we should all be proud of our collections and not a bit afraid of our accomplishments.  Thank you so much for the support.

Robert:  Thank you too for your support.  I am glad that you enjoyed the newspaper stories.  I looked and I thought we had "bragged" about Gary's article back in March 2009, but I could not find anything.

Brandon:  Thanks.  Please take a look at the following link related to my Wash Party in August 2009.  Look at Replies #19, 20, 21 and 36 to see photos of my basement.  My brother and I worked the entire month of July 2009 getting the basement ready for the permanent installations of many of my machines - just in time for the party.  Plus there are other pictures of the collection as it was 18 months ago.  My basement and solarium are nearly full now - I am running out of space.

The Journal Star finally added the whole story to their internet website.  So I am adding the link now.  I am uncertain how long it will be kept.
