Thanks for posting these!

Those are pretty interesting brochures. I am unsure what Whirlpool's focus was at the time, but the Roper models approximated, maybe even "impersonated" many Whirlpool models from the time. Today, Roper is a low-end, side-line brand which lacks most of the high-end features that distinguish a Whirlpool, but they are a great value. I believe there are only two or three washer models available from Roper at present, and two dryers (one large capacity with the extended rear and one flat-back).

Interesting that the consoles are of the same shape and nearly identical design today, in all-white.

Thanks again, I enjoyed these.

Mini-Hamper Door

First time I've seen that type door on anything other than a Kenmore dryer.

The washer ax6245v is very like the 88 whirlpool my mom and dad had. I would bet that the washer we had was just like the 1991 roper.

I am surprised that  whirlpool  put a hamper door on the Roper machines.  I think the days for the full width door are numbered and its a feature i really like. alr2903

I know many like(d) the hamper door, but in the application I had; I did not.
I lived in a Mobile Home where the laundry appliances were in a narrow hallway by the back door. The way the dryer was situatied when you opened the hamper door, you had to stand at the side of the door and then reach in.

If I had been the one that bought the machines, it would not have had the hamper door

alr2903,

My favorite is the wide mouth door that runs most of the width of the cabinet front, but not the whole cabinet.

The true full-width door can cause some issues in installations in closets, etc. as others have said, but I have alway enjoyed the luxury of the big door. I think the TOL full-width door is long gone at WP, same for the hamper door.

The full width door on large capacity dryers gave way to the wide opening door in the 80s. In standard capacity they lasted obviously longer but I think were gone several years ago if not longer, replaced by plug doors or a bigger side-swing door. Today's WP side swing doors differ between standard and large capacity in location on the dryer front, but they both feel flimsy and cheesy to me.
