Hello everyone!
Yesterday I lucked up on a Sunbeam Vista Electric Fryer with Crock Insert.
In great shape. In Avocado. A whopping $2.00!
Unfortunately it did not have the manual and recipe book.
Thought I would take a chance here to see if anyone knows at what temp to set the dial to cook a whole chicken in the crock?
I started it about two hours ago at 260 degrees.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance!
Brent

That is nice! I would think cooking at about 250-275 would be about right for slow cooking, 325 if you want to cook it a little faster. I usually cook whole chicken in my oven or on the grill at about 275.

Brent, although I do not remember specifically who, I do believe someone here within the last 6 to 9 months also found one of these and I believe also included the recipe booket.  Hopefully that person will see the post.  It's very rare, apparently, to find these with the crockery insert not broken.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input.

Bob it was Jim (autowasherfreak) that has one.  I wrote to him but I guess he is away.

The crock insert in this one looked as though it was never used!

I added the carrots, celery, and potatoes and ramped it up to 350 degrees for awhile.  The chicken was cooking nicely.  I just think 275 was too low.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Smells awesome!

Brent

Yes, I sent a harvest gold version to Jim "Autowasherfreak". His has a black band of decoration around the outside edge of the cover. I think I paid about $3 for the one I gifted him, complete w/ booklet.

Brent's manual that he bought of of eBay looks exactly like mine, right down to the color of the skillet on the front cover.  I thought if there was enough interest I would scan the book and share it will everyone here at AW.
