hi all my name is rob and i was hoping you all could help this problem i am having. i have this green GE heavy duty that a friend gave to me, haven't had a problem out of it since we have had it. the other day the belt broke looked around trying to find the right belt. i had to bring in the old one so they could get one like it. I tried to figure out how to put it on and couldn't seeing in looked different than any other dryer i have ever owned as far as how the tensioner was mounted I looked at all the diagrams going back to the 1970s but no luck so i am thinking it must be older than that. people at ge told me that ge dryers have a letter at the beginning of their model numbers but this one does not, and there are no wear marks where it could have rubbed off. I would also like to know what year it is just out of curiosity.

mod.no.1DE 520 E5 A
ser.no. VD211 886

thanks in advance for any help

I am looking at a 1968 GE catalog and the laundry appliances all end with "D" - your's ends in "E" (your model number should read DDE520E). Based on that I would guess your dryer is a 1969 model.

Others care to add information?

Lawrence

Hey Lawrence,

How about scanning that 1968 catalogue and posting it? Sure would be interesting to look at. And I think you're right about it being 1969, not only from the "E" but from the  "HEAVY DUTY" shield on the panel.

GE DRYER BELT

Yes this is a 1969 model and around this time they changed from a WE12X36 3 rib belt to the WE12X42 4 rib belt so be sure that you get the correct one for your dryer and also compare it to your old belt as someone could have changed the  original motor pulley and caused the belt to be different from the one the model # calls for.
