While we're shopping for new Westinghouses and RCA Whirlpools, does anyone know how to find an entire collection of photos of J.L. Hudson's that were online for I don't know how long? Detroit historical sites online don't yeild them anymore. Does anyone here remember them, or have a clue as to how to find them again? I refuse to believe they took them down.
Eiben and Irr looks like a wonderful place to shop, I love all the old department store photos showing the interiors. I'd love to see inside more of these regional businesses. |

Is an RCA Victor with the channel displayed in the little window at the top. Our landlady had this model, circa 1956-1957. The hi-fi on tall legs to the left of the records is an RCA Victor also, a friend of mine has this model still in use, same time frame. The legs come off if you want to use it on a table, credenza, shelf or similar. The refrigerators I think are RCA Whirlpool, the logo on the doors looks the same as what's on the drapes.
BTW, I'd kill for those drapes! |

Interesting to see those smaller TVs on the shelves in photo 5... for you young-uns, this is what passed for a "portable" television back in the day. Those things probably weighed at least 20 lbs. |

The single door with 6 letters spells CUSTOM...the one next to it with 7 letters spells SUPREME...and the last one which actually has 8 letters spells IMPERIAL...this is just a very educated guess on my part but if I am not mistaken all three of those names were used on RCA Whirlpool appliances at the time....PAT COFFEY |

Know some "Old Timers" from Pittsburgh in our street, am going to send them the link!
Love the "Brass Rail Restaurant", someone needs to bring that sort of diner, bar, juke-joint decor themed spot again. *LOL* *Eastman Kodak Stores* Gosh almost forgot they even existed. *Palmer's Restaurant and Lounge* Not that looks like *my* kind of place! *LOL* Very upscale, but not too frou-frou. Sort of like the spot Gloria Wanderss is taken a few times in "Butterfield 8", the final visit results in her being told off by her lover, and another patron telling him to shove a sock in his verbal abuse because "I've got my WIFE here". *Down-Town* Such glorious shots of down-town Pittsburg, both day and night. Anyone remember when going "DT" really meant something? Be it shopping, to have lunch, dinner and or see a show or film, if someone said you were going, it was bound to be fun. People got dressed to go down-town then to. No flip flops or shorts! *OMG* "Clark Candies"! Remember "Clark Bars"! Are they still around? Had no idea they stared in Philly. Give Me A "C", Give Me A "L" Give Me "ARK", what does it spell? |
