I'm trying to date a Hotpoint dishwasher we had when I was a kid. It was a Hotpoint built-in, but instead of the door swinging down like the washers do now the whole wash bay pulled like on a track or casters. You loaded it by reaching down in the wash bay like the older model washers. It was pretty nice. It had a brushed stainless steel front. You pushed it in to close it and then you took your thumb and with a little muscle you slid this toggle across to lock it and at this point I can't remember if it started on it's own or whether you pushed a button, ut had a lighted dial recessed back in the narrow space where the toggle was and you could watch it go thru its cycles. Only half of the dials was exposed. It was a solid heavy machine. And it was amazing quiet!

Can anyone tell me more about this machine or date it approximately?

Thanks,
Andy

Are you sure it was a Hotpoint and not a GE? It sounds like the GE "Princess" series they had out from the mid 50's through the early 60's. My mom got one for Christmas in 1957. See thread #24114 in the archive.

Ater I posted I realized it was a GE. You're absolutely right!

I knew it oculdn't be Hotpoint either because Hotpoint never offered a roll out dishwasher, only GE did.  Hotpoint only offered the front loading.

In your profile.....

Tom: You mentioned a '53 Westinghouse range. Do you have a photo you can share?

Andy,

Sorry I don't have any pics readily available. Everything is in a mess here as I'm getting ready to move back into the house I've been renovating. Most of my things are at storage, or being packed up. I hope to post some pics in the future. Thanks for asking.

Thanks anyway!
