Rather the earlier version with a metal tub.
Don't have time at the moment to go into details, but highly recommend going over to either of the Yahoo.com groups for "Hoovermatic" and "Twin tub" washing machines. IIRC posted on both are copies of the owner's manual and or detailed directions. Use isn't difficult once you understand a few principles. The dail on the left (wash or drain), opens and closes a valve that allows water to be drained from the wash tub into a sink or where ever. This is always closed when washing, rinsing and spinning water from the extractor back to the wash tub. You open it when you are draining wash or rinse water away. You set the timer (right knob) to count down how long you want the unit to agitate. When it finishes counting down things stop. When you want to drain and ONLY when you want to drain water from the wash tub, move this knob to the "drain" setting, and turn the "left" knob to drain as well. When the unit is plugged in and the lid is lowered on the spin can, it will engage. This allows you to wash in one tub, whilst spinning in the other. If you want the water coming from the spin can to go back into the wash tub, aim the hose there. If you want to drain the water away, aim the hose towards the sink. You cannot drain water from the wash tub whilst spinning in the extractor. Whenever removing water from the wash tub the spin can must be empty. Bottom line is that the same motor controls both the spin basket and pump, what changes via a diverter valve is where the water goes, either back into the tub (again with hose placed properly),or down the sink (ditto). |

Click this link, tons of info. Also, search "twin tub" on this website.
Definetely keep the left knob on WASH until you are entirely done with that wash water. The similarities between various twin tubs is far greater than the differences. But keep in mind, some have a spout and you can rinse directly in the spinner, some have no spout and you have to hold the hose in a hole. I believe yours is the type where you wash then spin, many loads until water is too dirty, almost always shooting water back into the main tub from the spinner. Then, finally, drain the mian wash water, refill with clean rinse water, and everything goes back thru another time. Or two. Or drain the rinse water when it gets sudsy and do second half of laundry in new rinse water. The more balanced you pack the spinner, the better. Then it hits 2300 RPMs and gets clothes AMAZINGLY dry. That way, when back into rinse, they absorb fresh water great. OR when all done and final rinsed and spun, lots of clothes can hang on line, or just 10 minuets in a dryer, they are so close to dry already. Read those links and give it a try, please feel free to ask more questons. Those things are FUN, loud, and fun (but cold on your hands in an Ohio basement in winter) CLICK HERE TO GO TO akronman's LINK |

To get manufacture dates, you usually need to provide model and serial numbers. |

Hey, congrats on your new Hoover. Your machine a BOL model, with no spray rinse arm. The 0517 you have is either a 71 or 72 as I believe these were discontinued in 73 and replaced by the T1000 series. There was the 0515 - 0518 (etc.) models and they were essentially the same except for different color combinations. I always though that the 0516 and 0517 were neat because of the strange color combos you could get them in. I really like the white cabinet and green poly tubs. There were other color combos like brown and green, yellow and green etc, and I think they funky cool. The serial numbers are not easy to track on the Hoovers, but 72 is a safe bet.
